NEWS IN SHORTMaking new friendsOver 145 students aged 10 and 11 due to starttheir secondary education at the <strong>Academy</strong> inSeptember <strong>2011</strong>, attended a friendship morningto meet new friends and teachers. The event,which is part of our extensive transitionprogramme included the opportunity to releaseover 100 tagged balloons into the sky.Primary Pupils launchtheir balloonsThe prospective boys and girls enjoyed a personaltour of the <strong>Academy</strong> and had the opportunity toask questions about their secondary school life tobe. There will be further opportunities for Year 6pupils to visit the <strong>Academy</strong> again when theycome for the Induction Day in July.<strong>NBA</strong>’s generous spiritYear 11 students have been raising money for<strong>NBA</strong>’s hardship fund and their prom which will beheld at Moxhull Hall in June. Their most recentproject was a bag wrap at the local Tescosupermarket. The committed students showedinspirational teamwork working in shifts to helpshoppers pack their groceries on a Saturday. Theday was very successful and raised an impressive£475.Year 11 have also been selling cakes at break timeand recently held a leg waxing sponsor before halfterm. Ten brave, male staff members weresponsored to have their legs waxed which raised animpressive £150.Making FriendsFootball championsOur boys’ football teams have had a fantastic start to the season andenjoyed a number of big wins.In a series of nail biting games, both Year 9 and Year 10 teams won theirleagues.
