FOR OVER FIFTY YEARS, Isaiah and Julia Zagar have
inspired each other to collaborate and improve their community.
While Isaiah’s public art has been more visually prominent,
Julia’s quiet impact has been equally profound. Together with
key members of the South Street Renaissance, they continue to
foster a network of artists and entrepreneurs alike.
Dear Julia is a visual love letter. It features decades of mixed
media works by both Isaiah and Julia, and a collection of pieces
made by artists from across the globe. The works tell the tale
of Julia’s presence within the community and throughout her
husband’s work, as well as personal moments of love, passion,
and strength in the lives of the iconic South Street couple.
Philadelphia’s Magic Gardens is honored to commemorate
Julia’s significance in the transformation of her neighborhood
and the role she played in creating our nonprofit organization.
Proceeds from this exhibition will fund the pilot of The Julia Zagar
Residency Program for Women Artists.
