Responsa by R’Aharon Shmuel Kaidenover. Frankfurt-am-main,
(without publisher’s name). 1683. 64 leaves, 18 cm.
The author, R’ Aharon Shmuel Kaidenover (1624 – 1679),
despite his passing at an early age, was one of the greatest
rabbinical authorities of his generation. With an introducton by
his son, R’ Zvi Hersh Kaidenover, who published this book,
and was a well known pious sage and authored the book Kav
H aYashar. First edition.
Good condition, restored margins of title page.

111. Knesset HaGedolah With Many
Handwritten Annotations
Laws of Orach Chaim, by R’ Chaim Benveniste. Leghorn,
Yedidyah Gabbai press. 1658. 6, 164 leaves, 28.5 cm.
First edition. With many handwritten annotations, part
of which are by R’ Reuven Bar Ya’akov, Rabbi of Sofia.
Later, through the recommendation of R’ Chaim Modai, R’
R euven became Chief Rabbi of Safed. R’ Reuven was the
first signatory on a few letters of emissaries from Safed, see
A. Yaari: Shluchei Eretz Yisrael pp. 668 – 669. In one of the
annotations R’ Reuven writes: this was the custom in Sofia
which has three congregations. It is well known that Sofia had
three congregations: Italian, Ashkenazi and Sephardi. Owners’
signatures.
Very good condition, stained. Half-leather binding.
