trying to find ways to supplement the material and to thoroughly assess students in core subject areas. Many math<br />

programs may lack the assessment component or do not provide ongoing assessments which are needed to keep track<br />

of student progress over various periods of time. It is important that teachers know that there are resources available<br />

and also need to know how to determine which resources are valuable.<br />

In this forum, discuss a time when assessment results were not a valid indication of your own math skills. Additionally,<br />

review this week?s required resources and choose at least one website listed. Evaluate the effectiveness of this site by<br />

considering the following:<br />

1. What is the name of the website and the web address? 2. What does this site offer? 3. What kind of<br />

characteristics do the assessments have that are of value? 4. What was the best component of the website? 5.<br />

What are some drawbacks of this site and the assessments available? 6. Do you recommend this site to others and<br />

why? Guided Response: Review two of your peers' initial posts. Compare and contrast your lists of valuable<br />

characteristics for assessments. Use research to discuss the elements needed for a reliable assessment and determine<br />

which kind of assessment you plan to use in your classroom and why. Try to convince your peers why they should also<br />

consider using that method of assessment to track their students' progress in math.<br />
