I had the pleasure of teaching mathematics to Ryan Arie Setiawan for the past three years; building on
from his Cambridge ‘O’ Level papers right to his high school years. Primarily, from his ‘O’ level
preparations, Ryan impressed me with his dexterity and keenness to solve numerical algorithms that
were thought-provoking. He has an innate ability and immeasurable curiosity in anything that involves
scientific inquiry. Ryan’s sincerity towards his education and advanced ability in analytical skills
makes him an ideal candidate for your engineering program.
Ryan’s approach to problem solving has been a mixture of deep curiosity and resoluteness to solve
any challenge specified to him. Often, I have noticed Ryan devise methods that are divergent to what
has been taught in class but still conversant with the basics. I recall a lesson on the binomial distribution
where the entire class was advised to seek out their set of answers following a designated formula that
had been a norm in my mathematics classes. To my pleasant surprise, it was interesting to observe
Ryan solve questions pertaining to this chapter by not relying on the formula but follow the approach
on event combination, a rare style of solving the problem on the said topic. Indeed, Ryan has always
been a value addition in my mathematics classes with his resoluteness to complete apparent obstacles,
face them unyieldingly and solve them with reason.
Ryan has my highest recommendation for your program. He has been able to demonstrate excellence
in all the fields that he puts his mind into. Ryan’s endless pursuit to excel, combined with his curiosity
and willingness to persevere, makes me believe that he would pursue mechanical engineering with the
utmost dedication, that this program demands. I wish him all the best towards this endeavor.
