Grade 1C—Ms Appleby
Reading: Continue with making connections and asking
questions when reading, independently and with an adult.
Continue with daily Home Reading Program
Writing: Begin persuasive writing. As always we focus on
editing and adding detail to our written work
Math: We will continue with addition and subtraction
strategies, as well as finishing up money and starting
Science: We will learn about living things. How can we care
for and respect all living things?
Home Practice Activities
Read daily! How do the pictures help you understand what you are
reading? Try sounding out the words, letters and sounds that you
Practice asking questions. When reading, have your child wonder
about something they have read
Practice recognizing the coins and their names. Adding coins up
What living things do you have in your house? What do they need
Practice identifying the similarities and differences between the
4 seasons (clothing, weather, leaves, activities).
With the weather changing please make sure to dress your child
appropriately each day as they spend two 20 minute breaks outside.
Some days they will need a heavy coat with mitts, others just
a light jacket!
Our room can be very warm (even in the winter months). Please
consider having your child wear a short sleeve shirt and bring a
sweater and/or long sleeved shirt to wear outside with his/her
