After the huge success of the World Choir Games 2014 - with 460 international choirs and 27,000 participants from 73 nations the largest World Choir Games ever – choirs from all over the world will again travel to Latvia to celebrate the 3rd European Choir Games and the Grand Prix of Nations Riga 2017. And with its impressive history of passionate singing, Riga is the ideal location for this event. Numerous of pedagogical offers, such as Individual Coachings and Evaluation Performances with well-known conductors complement the colorful concert program of the European Choir Games. Beside the broad range of competition and friendship concerts the participating choirs are invited to join the Festival Stage Choir. <strong>European</strong> choristers - welcome to Latvia!<br />
More than 150 years ago, at the small Dikļi Manor in northern Latvia, six local<br />
choirs got together to sing. We now remember this event as the beginning of<br />
the unique Latvian Song Festival tradition, which is so well known in Latvia and<br />
recognized throughout the world.<br />
This summer in Riga we are proud to host 160 choirs who all share a love of<br />
music, a positive spirit of competition and true pleasure in making new friends.<br />
Music is a universal language which helps us to understand each other. A music<br />
festival like this one brings us closer to each other both as individuals and at the<br />
cultural and national levels. Respect for our own culture and spiritual heritage<br />
helps us to treat others with respect. Such engagement motivates us to find out<br />
what we have in common, to discover differences and to enrich each other. That<br />
strengthens our common home - Europe.<br />
I hope you all - singers and organizers alike – will experience the unique power<br />
of singing together. For a brief time you will become part of the singing tradition<br />
that Latvia is so proud of and which has empowered our small but strong nation<br />
over the centuries.<br />
