When one enters the exquisitely decorated dining room, reminiscent of a Parisian tea room, one is instantly transported to Paris. Livnatt Affriat, the owner, greets her guests as if they were old friends, even if she is meeting them for the first time. Her husband, Yoel, is the chef patissier. He is a graduate of the famed Ecole Lenôtre in Paris, a school that has produced some of the world’s finest pastry chefs. Life has changed from their days in Paris, where they were opticians and owned three shops. The couple made aliya from Paris in 2013 with their three children. They are part of the wave of French citizens who have greatly enriched Israel and Jerusalem in particular. One can sit inside the café or outside in the Kikar Hamusica plaza while listening to a variety of live music that includes jazz, classical, Mediterranean and traditional klezmer music. It is not unusual that diners find themselves unable to hold back as they rise to their feet and dance around the plaza in joyous abandon. The Gourmandises menu offers a lovely selection of dairy meals from breakfast to dinner. The Mediterranean and Parisian influence is evident in the standard menu and special offerings. One can select a simple café and a choice of croissants, an omelette or a full Israeli breakfast. Lunch and dinner include soups, salads, quiche, pasta and fish. The chef prepares each dish with his unique creative touch, using the freshest ingredients from the Mahaneh Yehuda market. Gourmandises offers a variety of the finest Israeli wines, which can be ordered by the glass or bottle. At the end of a sumptuous meal, there is chef Yoel’s patisserie menu. The pastry is displayed in the dining room for your selection, always a challenging decision with so many tempting pastries from which to choose. Traditional French pastries are offered, as well as the newest pastries from Paris. Yoel and Livnatt travel to Paris regularly, and they always bring back new ideas. In addition to dining in the café, one can order meals and a variety of baguettes, breads and rolls to take home. Several kinds of halla are available every Friday. All the pastry, as well as cookies and chocolates, are available for home. Most of the desserts are dairy, but parve desserts are also made every day. They make a welcome gift to bring for Shabbat. Livnatt can create a gift basket made to your specifications, and it can include a bottle of wine. Gourmandises can accommodates private parties in the dining room or outside on the plaza. The meal selection can be made from the dining room menu or a custom menu can be devised. Gourmandises can also bring the party to you. We provide catering for parties to celebrate weddings, bar mitzvas, brit mila, birthdays, anniversaries, engagement parties, retirement parties or family reunions. A special favorite is a bar mitzva at the Kotel. You can contact Livnatt to discuss your catering needs at 058-400 8720. 10
