Old Boys UK Old Boys

Old Boys UK Old Boys Reunion On 13 March 2018 Ridge Old Boys, based in London and the surrounding area, gathered at The RAF Club for the first UK Ridge Old Boys Reunion. We initially planned and hoped for 20 to 25 Old Boys and were completely blown away when over 40 arrived. The mood was jovial and stories from past years were bantered around the room as old friendships were reunited and new ones forged. The hosts for the evening were Richard Stanley and James Clucas. After a brief presentation in which they ran through a general update on the school and the Centenary Plans for 2019 and beyond, the evening got into full swing. We had in attendance Old Boys from as recent as 2009 to as far back as the 1950’s. It was truly an outstanding evening that has set the tone, and now the expectation, of an annual event that may even be coupled with a golf day or something similar. The evening was made even more special for a few old boys as Richard Stanley had actually taught them at The Ridge before he left for Highbury, not to mention how proud Mr Stanley felt to see how wonderfully these young men had turned out. Sincere thanks to James Haggie for assisting with the arrangements and for volunteering to assist further with Old Boy initiatives in the UK. Lastly, thank-you to all those who attended the evening; it is great to know that so many still have such fond memories of their days at The Ridge. By Joe Kotwal SA Rowing Champs The St. Andrew’s U16A VIII at SA Champs at Roodeplaat, near Pretoria, won bronze after a gruelling race in extreme heat. The crew missed silver by 0.07 seconds – literally 10cm over the 2000m race. The interesting thing to note is that this VIII was powered by no less than three ex-Ridge boys (from left to right in the awards photo: Elliot Apps, Daniel Zahn and Richard Morris) who are together in grade 10 at St. Andrew’s.
