The work features antiphonal trumpets placed behind or around the audience. If there is a balcony in the hall, the trumpets
should be placed there. A minimum of four antiphonal trumpets are preferred. If antiphonal trumpets are not available, have the four
on stage trumpets play the antiphonal trumpet parts from m. 64 - to rehearsal F.
Notation wise, the triangle with the number inside indicates the number of fingers to hold up in order to cue a change in the
aleatoric passages for both the antiphonal trumpets and the ensemble. For example, triangle 1 is 8-10 seconds in length. Once the
conductor is ready to move on, the conductor should hold up a 2 in order to cue the change in the antiphonal trumpets. However,
between triangle 1 -2, the conductor should cue the percussion on beat four before proceeding to triangle 2. Triangles 3 and 4 should
not be conducted. However it is recommend that on the last four beats of triangle 4, the conductor should beat out the new tempo
leading into m. 77.
