The building’s entrance is cut to be unconventionally
high as most find it to be quite deviated from the familiar
human scale. The architectural language communicates
the space and special functionalities into the physicality
that one may not find in everyday life. On the other hand,
such an unorthodox entrance can cause discomfort to
viewers, which are accumulated from their previous art
viewing experiences. The design team worked out the
issue by using food as a medium. The design picks up on
Thai society’s rich food culture and included the restaurant
as a part of the program. Located right at the front of the
museum, the space completely opens itself, through the
carefully executed design, welcoming people into the
building as the awkwardness and discomfort are relieved.
The building is a conversation between arts and
spaces. It is evident that to design a building, what an
architect factors and considers are not only the architecture’s
surrounding context, but every aspect of the
environment be they cultural or physical. What is also
included is the speculated changes of the environment;
some are solutions while some are challenges, but what
they all offer is the spirit and livelihood the architecture
embodies and contains. Even after the design and construction
were completed, conversations continue, new
discourses emerge, being heard and partaken in, still,
by viewers, and endlessly they grow.
