FOODIE CATEGORIES EXPLAINED

Self-catering

If you’re air bnb-ing, tired of eating out

or just plain can’t leave your cooking

skills to rest, we got you covered too.

Apart from the farmers markets there

are quite a few grocery shops around.

Only a few of them downtown, though

(like a Mercator in Stritarjeva street),

but take a few steps to other districts

(like Trnovo) and you already have supermarkets

there (it might again be

Mercator).

Sunday no fun day ...

On Sundays, many restaurants are

closed as we all head over to Bled, the

coast, or just generally somewhere out

of Ljubljana (usually hiking). There are

however still some pretty sweet spots

open (just check their respective opening

times) so we’ve picked them for you

to enjoy Sunday Ljubljana in a yummy

style nevertheless - and you can always

do so with our food tour.

For the love of SLOVEnian

food

Generally all restaurants and bars in the

city centre have been changed in the

past 5 years. Period. There is a new generation

now dwelling downtown and our

eating habits have changed, predominantly

towards embracing world fusion

cuisine trends (and caricature of “traditional”

Slovenian cuisine). However,

there are still some spots that cater for

our true Slovenian comfort food. More

so, though, on the edges of the city so

feel free to roam over there too.

Breakfast & brunch

If there is any biggest step forward in

Ljubljana, it is the offer of breakfast

& brunch places now. In 2016 almost

noone was offering anything beyond

classical ham & cheese toast and croissant

to start your day, now venues with

granola, eggs Benedict, French toast

etc is mushrooming. Ok, for our standards.

Point is: you won’t starve until

lunch like you used to!

We mean business

In Ljubljana for work and in need to close

a deal? No problem, let’s find you a table.

We’ve selected some spots that are

cosy yet secluded enough to enable you

some privacy.

Drinks

You’re never too far away from a bar anywhere

in Ljubljana, but there are some

that will pour you more than just regular

beer & wine oldies goldies (Union and

Laško, or haložan and janževec). Quite a

few places now offer a great selection of

anything alcoholic, as well as a fabulous

atmosphere to get you into the mood

for that Friday night party time … Introducing

Daktari, Magda, Pritličje, LP

bar, anything on Petkovšek river side.
