Welcome to the November edition
of Wanneroo Link.
Officially opening at 4pm on Friday
20 November and continuing until
10pm Saturday 21 November, the
popular Wanneroo Agricultural Show
will delight families of all ages at the
Wanneroo Showgrounds.
Proudly supported by the City of
Wanneroo, the show has been
a much-loved local event since
August 1909, when Sir John Forrest
opened the inaugural event. We
sincerely thank the members of the
Wanneroo Agricultural Society for
their commitment and dedication
in ensuring the show is a success
every year.
In addition to the rides, showbags,
roving performances, live music and
market stalls, visitors to this year’s
show can visit the City of Wanneroo
marquee at the Margaret Cockman
Pavillion, to chat with staff from
across the organisation - including
libraries, youth services, waste
services and Rangers.

Last month, I was honoured to
officially open two new skate parks
in Landsdale and Yanchep.
It was fantastic to see so many
families, keen young skateboarders,
scooter riders and BMXers having a
great time practising their skills, as
they raced along the ramps and rails
at both Warradale Park and Splendid
Park.
The design of the skate parks was
the result of extensive consultation
with our local community. There
were plenty of smiling faces at
both events, which underlines
the importance of listening to and
hearing our community.
Thank you to everyone who came
along and had a great time.
I would also like to thank the State
Government and Lotterywest for
their contributions of $450,000 and
$250,000 respectively towards the
$720,000 Yanchep skate park, and
Lotterywest for a further $200,000
towards the $670,000 Landsdale
skate park.

to mark the rich history, diverse
cultures and achievements of
Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander
peoples.
This year, the theme of ‘Always Was,
Always Will Be’ recognised that First
Nations people have occupied and
cared for this continent for 65,000
years. A simple statement, which is
so powerful in meaning.
To mark NAIDOC Week, the City
unveiled new signage at Palladio
Park in Clarkson, which pays respect
to the suburb’s rich First Nations
heritage and features artwork from
Bibbulmun artist Esandra Colbung.
The site is very significant to the
Aboriginal people, as it is one of
the many places that holds great
spiritual and cultural connection to
the land.
All of this work is part of our
commitment to creating an inclusive
community with strong relationships
across cultures, based on mutual
respect and understanding.
