Design, functionality, and
sustainability blend seamlessly to
develop the extraordinary
Ömer Faruk Görün Project Manager
omer.gorun@img.com.tr
Welcome to the latest edition of Furnishing Fabric Fashion,
where we dive into the ever-evolving world of textiles and design.
This issue is particularly special as we explore the exciting
frontier of value-added fabrics—innovative materials that not
only elevate aesthetic appeal but also enhance functionality
and sustainability.
In today’s dynamic market, the role of fabrics goes far beyond
their visual impact. The integration of advanced features into
textiles is reshaping the industry. One of the most significant
advancements is the development of flame-retardant fabrics.
These textiles are not just about safety; they represent a
crucial step towards creating environments that are both
beautiful and secure. As fire safety regulations become more
stringent, designers and manufacturers are embracing these
innovations to meet compliance while delivering on style and
performance.
Design, of course, remains at the heart of our industry. Modern
fabrics are a canvas for innovation, enabling designers to
push boundaries and experiment with textures, patterns, and
finishes. This issue showcases some remarkable examples of
how design and functionality can harmoniously coexist, leading
to groundbreaking textile solutions that cater to diverse
aesthetic and practical needs.
Sustainability continues to be a driving force in the textile
world. The industry is increasingly focused on reducing environmental
impact through the use of eco-friendly materials
and processes. We highlight some of the latest strides in
sustainable fabric production, from recycled fibers to eco-conscious
dyes, underscoring the commitment of many brands
to create a more sustainable future without compromising on
quality or style.
Moreover, the power of artificial intelligence is revolutionizing
fabric manufacturing. AI is enhancing everything from fabric
design and production efficiency to quality control and customization.
The ability to leverage AI technology for predictive
analysis and trend forecasting is not just a luxury but a necessity
in staying ahead in a competitive market. This issue delves
into how AI is shaping the future of textile innovation and the
exciting possibilities it holds for designers and manufacturers
alike.
As we navigate these advancements, it is clear that the future
of textiles is bright and full of potential. This issue aims to
inspire and inform, offering insights into how value-added
features are transforming our industry. We hope you find the
stories, trends, and technologies explored within these pages
as fascinating and forward-thinking as we do.

Embracing
Nature Through
Printed Textiles
The Nature Reserve Print Collection is a series of fabric designs that
aims to bring the essence of the outdoors into interior spaces. This
collection includes various patterns such as foliage, abstract, floral,
and geometric designs, reflecting a deep appreciation for nature.
EEach design in the collection is intended to inspire interiors, add energy, and
create a sense of peacefulness. These fabrics, suitable for a range of applications
including curtains, cushions, and upholstery, are flame retardant and can
be used in various settings from hospitality to healthcare, as well as in domestic
environments. For more detailed information, you can visit our Nature Reserve
Print Collection.
Nature Reserve
In a world where urban living and technology increasingly dominate our lives,
finding ways to reconnect with nature has never been more important. One
unexpected avenue for fostering this connection is through the textiles and
fabrics we use in our homes and workplaces. A striking example of this is our
Nature Reserve Print Collection, which beautifully encapsulates the essence of
the natural world.
The power of Nature-Inspired Design
Nature-inspired design in textiles is more than just an aesthetic choice; it’s
about creating a space that resonates with the tranquillity and beauty of the
natural world. The Nature Reserve Print Collection showcases this philosophy
exquisitely, offering designs that range from lush foliage and elegant floral to
abstract interpretations of nature’s forms. These patterns remind us of the outdoors,
encouraging a sense of calm and wellbeing in our indoor environments.

11
Furnishing Fabric Fashion
Fusing Functionality with Aesthetic
Our collection stands out not only for its visual allure but also for its exceptional
functional versatility. The fabrics employed are flame retardant, rendering them
ideal for a diverse range of settings. This includes hotels, cruise ships, healthcare
facilities, educational institutions, workplaces, and even residential homes.
This functionality broadens the appeal, guaranteeing that these designs find a
place in a multitude of environments. The blend of aesthetic and practical safety
features makes this collection a preferred choice for spaces that prioritise both
style and safety. By offering this combination, we ensure that the beauty of the
natural world can be safely and elegantly integrated into various settings, enriching
the ambiance of any space they grace.
Sustainability in Textile Design
Incorporating elements of nature into our textile designs is more than just an
aesthetic choice… It’s a powerful statement about sustainability, an increasingly
vital consideration in contemporary design. By selecting fabrics that echo the
beauty of the natural world, we actively underscore the significance of environmental
preservation. This approach transforms our everyday spaces, infusing

12
Furnishing Fabric Fashion
them with an ethos of outdoor conservation. It’s a deliberate, meaningful way
to blend daily life with a deep-seated respect for our planet, making each design
choice a testament to our commitment to the environment. Through these
choices, we bring the essence of nature into our daily environments. In turn,
fostering a greater awareness and appreciation of the world around us.
The Therapeutic Effect of Natural Imagery
There’s growing research suggesting that images of nature can have a therapeutic
effect, reducing stress and improving mental wellbeing. By incorporating
designs like these into interiors, we create spaces that not only look beautiful,
but have a positive impact on the people using them.
of nature into our everyday spaces. Our Nature Reserve Print Collection beautifully
exemplifies the way in which thoughtful design can seamlessly connect
the indoors with the natural environment. This collection acts as a harmonious
intermediary, fostering a tranquil atmosphere that encourages peace and wellbeing.
Simultaneously, it maintains a keen focus on practicality and sustainability.
Through this approach, the collection not only beautifies living spaces but
also subtly encourages a deeper appreciation for nature’s wonders. It stands as
a beacon of how design can integrate aesthetic appeal with environmental consciousness.
This ensures that each piece resonates with a sense of purpose and
harmony. It’s a reminder that in every thread, there’s a chance to draw closer to
nature.
Textiles and fabrics offer a unique opportunity to bring the beauty and serenity

As Vellteks family, we preferred to combine soft
colours with vibrant patterned cushions at our
stand, which offers a minimal, simple but aesthetic
elegance. By blending this year’s new trend tones
with the trends of the past year, we also winked at
the tones that will come to the fore next year.
We balanced the serenity given by the colour tones
with our digital pattern designs. In all this balance,
we continued to protect our fabric quality, which is
the most important.

While presenting our new quality modern
fabrics, we also had the opportunity to introduce
some functionalities such as water-dirt
repellency and paw-friendly features to our
customers thanks to the fair.
We hope to meet again at the next fair with
the pride of having successfully survived the
Hometex fair, which we prepared with great
excitement.
ALOE by
kirkbydesign
WIDE-WIDTH
SUSTAINABLE
SHEER
by Brand Director, Jordan Mould, influential British interiors brand, Kirkby
Design, has a contemporary and sometimes playful approach to innovative
LLed
design and colour. Developing distinctive textiles from its in-house studio in
London, Kirkby Design has also pioneered unique collaborations including the
successful Underground collection with Transport for London and with the iconic
fashion brand, Eley Kishimoto.
ALOE is a ground-breaking, washable, wide-width drapery textile, made from
60% Aloe vera and 40% organic cotton.
To create the Aloe vera yarn, the gel from the plants is extracted, then pulled,
heated and pressed. This creates a substance which is then shredded to produce
a fleece-like material that is spun. Organic cotton is then combined with
the Aloe vera to create an ultra-smooth, contemporary drape with an elegant
character.
The transparency of the ALOE sheer allows light to filter through, creating
minimal blocks of colour. A calming neutral palette is punctuated with on-trend
shades such as Acid Yellow, Cobalt Blue and Clove.
SUSTAINABLE NOTES
Aloe vera is more sustainable than conventional materials as the plant grows
with no chemicals or fertilisers and does not require any watering.

Organic Cotton is grown without the use of pesticides or fertilisers, resulting
in improved soil quality and reduced water consumption. It also requires
less energy than traditional cotton production and therefore produces fewer
greenhouse gases.
Design
will be
discussed
in Istanbul
MOSFED President Ahmet Güleç
said that those without original
designs will not be accepted to
Furnishings & Design Istanbul, which
will be held in September.
MMOSFED’s first furniture-focused design fair, FDI, will be held on September
19-21 at the Istanbul Expo Center. Created with the main mission
of turning Turkish products into brands that everyone wants to own
with original, innovative and aesthetic designs, FDI also draws attention
with its strong design committee and advisory board. MOSFED President
Ahmet Güleç said that Turkey needs organizations like FDI that are positioned
correctly and have a clear target and mission, and answered our
questions about the fair and the sector.
First of all, what is the purpose of this fair?
We have been successfully organizing the Furniture Fair, one of the
biggest fairs in Turkey, for years. However, three concepts we have
neglected for a while: Design, innovation and sustainability. We need to
strengthen these muscles. We are especially looking for the answer to
the question of how design can be the new story. Therefore, designers
need to know the business world better and the business world needs
to know designers better. This is how FDI emerged and we will organize
the first one this year. The main purpose of our fair is “Designer to Business”,
that is to bring designers and manufacturers together. There will
be many events related to this subject. We want the first year of the fair
to be modest. Then, over the years, this fair will grow and design will be
talked about in Istanbul.
What will the coming together of designers and producers
bring to both sides?
When a designer creates an original product, it should not only remain

33
Will designers from abroad also come to the fair?
Of course, this business should have an international dimension. We are
especially in contact with the foreign press. Next year we are thinking of
creating country pavilions in different countries. But first we want to see
our local strength and show it to the outside world. Because those who
are not strong locally cannot be strong in the international arena.
Furnishing Fabric Fashion
What are the export targets of the furniture sector for
2024 and beyond?
The furniture sector has been the sector that has increased its exports
the most in the last 20 years. A sector that is almost never in the rankings
today has an export capacity of 5 billion dollars. In 2024, we think that
these figures will continue. However, we do not expect much growth this
year due to the fluctuations in the exchange rate and inflation figures.
With 2025, we have a 20% growth target in exports. In 2028, our target is
on paper. It should also come to light in practice. Therefore, designers
and manufacturers will share their experiences with each other and
discuss how products can be designed more suitable for production. We
thought that both sides needed a platform to carry out these studies and
that’s why we planned the fair. There will be special areas for both design
companies and designers at the fair. We will not accept those who do not
already have original designs.

34
Furnishing Fabric Fashion
$ 12 billion in furniture exports. The most effective thing in this will be
with value-added products and products whose design belongs to us.
So how do you plan to develop value-added exports?
We still have dynamism. We have the power to close the gap with
other countries. The reason for this difference is that we have neglected
value-added production. Sustainable value-added exports come
from creating value. The furniture industry’s ability to create value and
brands to gain identity will be entirely through design. Without design,
the furniture sector means nothing. We currently have over 45,000
manufacturers and more than half of them export. Direct exports
reveal the dynamism of the furniture sector. This means that companies
can create value and everyone, from small to large, is working hard
to export.
We have become a country that knows how to produce for the world.
If we can export to Africa, Japan and America, this is a great success
for us. Producing for so many different countries and cultures requires
experience. We act with the idea of “Think globally, act locally”. We are a
sector that recognizes all cultures in the world and develops projects for
them. This is our biggest strength.

Home textile
sector met at
HOMETEX
2024
Fair
Textile sector representatives met
with buyers from all over the world at
HOMETEX Home Textile Fair.
HHOMETEX Home Textile Fair, organized by the Turkish Home Textile
Industrialists’ and Business People’s Association (TETSİAD) and KFA Fair
Company, a subsidiary of Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry
(BTSO), opened its doors at Istanbul Expo Center. Turkish textile manufacturers
met with buyers from all over the world at the fair. More than
700 companies participated in the fair; innovative products and designs
of companies from curtains and curtain accessories to upholstery fabrics,
towels and bathroom products, carpets and floor coverings, bedroom,
kitchen and dining room textiles to wall coverings were exhibited.
‘Fashion in home textile sector is determined in Turkiye’
Speaking at the opening program of the fair, İbrahim Burkay, President
of Bursa Chamber of Commerce and Industry (BTSO), said: “Considering
the inflationary environment our country is in and the difficulties we
are experiencing in exports, I would like to express that we support our
new economic policy. Healthy growth is not possible in an inflationary
environment. If we are implementing a growth policy based on production
and exports, we need to support monetary policies with fiscal
policies and reforms. We also want the sector to be supported in terms
of exports. Turkey is the center where fashion is determined in the home
textile sector. The home textile sector is the sector that produces the

most value-added products and delivers them to consumers. We need to
continue this power without diminishing it”.
Hasan Hüseyin Bayram, Chairman of the Board of Directors of TETSIAD,
said in his speech: “Turkish home textile sector has become a sought-after
brand with the name “Turkish Home Textile” in the world. It has
become one of the strongest sector brands of our country in the world.
At this point of branding, we should also state that HOMETEX Fair has
a great share. HOMETEX not only provides brand value, awareness and
commercial contribution to our sector, but also carries a cultural mission
that will benefit the promotion of our country”.
The Art of
Upholstery

55
Furnishing Fabric Fashion
Introducing pattern and
colour to your interiors
can sometimes feel a bit
daunting – especially
when it comes to more
permanent choices like
paint or wallpaper. One
of our favourite ways to
ease into bolder design
decisions is through
the use of upholstery.
Whether it’s to breathe
new life into a living
room by re-upholstering
a tired slipper chair or
sofa or to switch things
up by introducing a
new pattern or colourscheme
in the bedroom,
it doesn’t take much
fabric to really make a
difference to your space.

Deep and Detailed
When it comes to designs that will stand the
test of time, think about opting for dark and
detailed designs that will be generous when it
comes to disguising marks of wear and tear.
“I love multi-coloured, densely-patterned fabrics
in a house with young children. I have both Bettina
in Canyon and Brink of Summer in Reservoir
in my own home and even with my 3 and 7
year-olds doing somersaults on them daily, they
show very little wear and tear.” – Alexis Hartman,
Founder and Designer of Lake August

57
Furnishing Fabric Fashion
Warm or Cool?
When you’re deciding on a colour for your upholstery,
think about the kind of atmosphere that you want to
create in a room. If you’re looking to add warmth and
vibrancy to a space, think about using warm yellows,
oranges and terracottas or if you are looking to create
a calm and serene setting, opt for cooler tones like
greys and blues.
Direction Matters
“Consider print direction; this is crucial when applying
a fabric to a three dimensional form. Take a lampshade
for example – for drum shades, linear prints work
beautifully, however, tapered shades, like this one in
our Kanoko Pacific Blue Linen benefit from all over
prints which are less directional.” - Walter G
Form First
“When selecting printed fabrics to cover furniture,
consider how the fabric will appear when seamed
together. For simple forms, bold prints are fantastic as

58
Furnishing Fabric Fashion
the print will do the talking - take these bar stools which hero our Tangier Denim
print. More complicated upholstery pieces will benefit from linear designs - our
Luxor Saffron fabric enhances the fabulous curves of this slipper chair.” – WalterG
Play with Shape
“Upholstery is another opportunity to amplify colour, pattern and texture in
interior decoration. Loose covers add a relaxed dimension and with a patterned
fabric simultaneously bring more fun to a scheme.” - Penny Morrison. These
upholstered slipper chairs combine a loose skirt with floral patterns for an accessory
that is both relaxed and romantic.
Sweet Dreams
An upholstered headboard is a brilliant and relatively simple way of refreshing
your bedroom. If you want to add a soft touch to the space, how about a repeated
floral design? Or for something more contemporary, a bold abstract print can
work wonders.
Mixing Patterns
When it comes to tips for mixing patterns in a space, we spoke to Tigger Hall,
designer of Nine Muses Textiles for her expert insights.
“Mixing scale and pattern is one of the key elements of Nine Muse Textiles,
the collection is designed and coloured to work cohesively throughout,” she
explained. “The hero of the scheme is generally the larger pattern and once
selected, the other fabrics are selected to bring a specific feel – whether it’s
warmth, vibrancy or excitement. We feel it is important for rooms to always
have an element of surprise and wit and mixing patterns is a brilliant way of
achieving this.”
In Need of A Performance fabric?
When it comes to choosing fabrics for outdoor spaces or high-traffic areas in
your home, there are many important factors to consider beyond just the visual
aesthetic. High-performance fabrics have been carefully designed to last longer
in harsh environmental conditions such as strong sunlight and hold their integrity
even with frequent usage, and can often be the ideal choice for upholstering
those pieces that call for extra durability.

Chairs of your living spaces can be ideally personalized with a
well-chosen upholstery fabric. Here are the inspirational tips
for selecting complimentary fabrics and designs for your chair
covers according to your functional and decorative requirements.
Masterful mixing of designs
When it comes to creating contemporary interiors following
the emerging trends, the most popular strategy is the mixing
and matching of colors. With an attractive mix of interior
theme designs and contrasting colors, you can find the perfect
upholstery match for your chairs.
For selecting the best layout, consider the overall room
scheme and style of existing essentials in your home. You can
pick the neutral canvas for upholstery fabric and design to not
overpower the look. To create the accent chairs look, you can
go with bold colors and minimal patterns.

64
Fashion inspired fabrics
For the casual upholstery of chairs, the most popular yet unique choice to
select for fabric is cotton or linen. These fabrics with minimal to detailed patterns
and prints are ideal choices to add an element of interest to a place.
For fashion-inspired fabrics, you have the flexible choice of selecting bold
graphics, textured weave, and subtle prints. These upholstery fabrics with
unique details of tufting, buttons, and clear lines tend to enhance the chair’s
aesthetics even more.
Go For Artistic Fabric Prints
To dress up your chairs in the most fascinating way, you can go for creative
and bold prints. Whether it’s a dining room or living room chair, never be
afraid to try mid-century, modern, graphics, floral, and travel-inspired prints.
You can go big by selecting perfect chair upholstery fabrics with unique patterns
including abstract, chevrons, spheres, and bold stripes. You can take any
fabric design as inspiration and customize it to suit your chair’s supporting
materials, the rest of the decor, and personalized preferences.
Pick Neutral Or Bold Colors
The upholstery of chairs can transform the entire visual
appeal of your space. For upholstery fabrics, you can pick
from a huge array of light and dark tones. Select from
an extensive color palette of neutral whites, beige, blue,
pink, cream, and grey to dark aqua blue, red, green, and
orange.
When selecting fabrics, you can go unusual for color
combinations to add an element of interest to your spaces.
Color choice for fabrics makes a direct impact on the
room’s interior appearance.
Select Fabrics Of Minimal Design
To create an accent chair in your home, you can go for
fabrics featuring minimal prints and layouts. In the market,
you will find an exclusive fabric variety with unique
design details. With dotted and geometric patterns, floral
and vintage designs, and artistic prints, you can get fabrics
for upholstery.
For a minimal yet elegant decor appearance, you can go
for the small-scale printed furnishing. The fabric designs
with unique embroidery and motifs make any chair look
extravagant and beautiful. You can transform your chair
style without overpowering the entire look.
Add A Chic Vibe With Traditional Layouts
patterns or minimal yet detailed layouts.
The addition of upholstered chairs with vintage patterns
and embossed textures is an excellent choice for any
space. With unique motifs and design intricacies, these
chairs will stand out as the accent piece in your home.
Embrace Elegance With Velvet
The most sumptuous statement for chair upholstery can
be made using exceptionally beautiful velvet materials.
Velvet is the most desirable fabric with a soft yet stable
texture that is always preferable to upholster chairs.

65
overall style of your furniture timelessly. Velvet is perfectly
suitable for every piece of furniture, above all, chairs. You
your chairs for a distinct appearance.
Go Classic By Selecting Leather
Leather upholstered chairs are always the smartest choice
to go classy with interior styling. You can select real, faux,
or pigmented leather with different types of light-to-dark
color schemes to suit your preferred taste and aesthetics.
With the leather upholstery of your wooden or metal
chairs, you not only can enhance comfort and functionality
but also restore the treasured look and original profiles.
For chairs with tufting and backings, leather is the perfect
choice to settle for. With buttons and the addition of other
i
imm cologne 2025 is set to redefine interior design trends, showcasing an
innovative concept, updated exhibitor packages, and a renewed emphasis
on industry fundamentals. With an inspiring vision for the future of interior
design, the event promises a vibrant showcase of international trends and
German excellence. One of the most promising developments is in the Sleep
segment, where a strong presence from eleven prominent German companies
marks a significant return to the fair. After the previous event saw limited
German industry representation, this resurgence underscores Cologne’s
pivotal role in the global interior design landscape.
“The requirements for what trade fairs should achieve have changed, as
have the conditions in the industry,” says Matthias Pollmann, Vice President
Trade Fair Management Koelnmesse. “We have adapted our concept in close
dialogue with our partners and exhibitors and are pleased that our measures
are pointing in the right direction. We are seeing initial successes in helping
the imm cologne regain the importance it deserves and are seeing the first
positive signals.” As one of the most important interior trade fairs, the imm
cologne covers all the services that the furnishing industry uses to turn a
house or flat into a home. Divided into the segments Sleep, Pure and Home,
companies from the entire sector have the opportunity to present themselves
to an international audience in a targeted manner and generate new
customers.
A high presence for Sleeping Comfort
Made in Germany
The number of German companies participating in
the Sleep segment has risen extraordinarily: eleven
exhibitors have already booked their places, after
only a few German companies were represented
at the imm cologne at the last edition. Things look
different in 2025: Auping Germany, ergomed, Erich
Werkmeister, EuroComfort Group, Femira, Frankenstolz,
Hemafa, Hüsler Nest, Metzeler Schaum,
Rummel Matratzen and Schwarzwald Schlafsysteme
were convinced by the “Excellence in Sleep”
concept area, which was developed together with
the German Mattress Industry Association (Fachverband
Matratzen-Industrie e.V.). “The significant in-

75
crease in the number of participants in the Sleep segment is a complete
success for our industry. It confirms that the imm cologne has its finger
on the pulse of the times with its new concept. The close cooperation
between the Mattress Association and Koelnmesse has made a significant
contribution to bringing the ‘Excellence in Sleep’ area back to the
forefront. This area offers our members a unique opportunity to present
themselves to an international audience and to emphasize the high
quality level of the German trade association of the mattress industry,”
emphasizes Martin Auerbach, Managing Director of the German Mattress
Industry Association.
Home and Pure: Focus on High-End Brands and
Premium Design
In the Home segment, the event has already garnered commitment from
leading names such as Polipol, 2-Connect, Actona, Finori, Furninova,
Hjort Knudsen, HTL, Innovation Living, Kuka, Nouvion, Skovby, Tradepoint,
Unique Furniture, and Wimmer Wohnkollektionen GmbH. “We’re
delighted with the overwhelming interest in our new participation
packages,” remarks Bernd Sanden, Director of imm cologne. “The enthusiastic
response indicates that we’ve struck the right chord, providing
companies of all sizes with flexible solutions to engage successfully in the
trade fair and achieve their business goals.”

76
Furnishing Fabric Fashion
The Pure segment continues to be a hallmark of
high-end design, offering a stage for premium
brands to shine. Koelnmesse maintains its commitment
to innovation through the introduction
of Circles—unique exhibition areas that allow
companies to showcase their products in an engaging
and cost-effective manner. Featuring catering
services and engaging speakers, these spaces
promise high foot traffic and interaction. Leading
brands such as raumplus, Willisau Group Switzerland,
Signet, Scholtissek and Freifrau/Janua have
already secured their spots for 2025.

77
Flexible participation for any budget and requirement
Koelnmesse’s approach to participation has evolved to accommodate
a diverse range of exhibitors. With all-in-one packages starting
at less than €10,000, the fair offers newcomers an accessible
entry point. These packages encompass everything a company
needs for a successful trade fair experience, making it feasible for
even smaller enterprises to showcase their innovations affordably.
Established brands and premium manufacturers continue to enjoy
tailored solutions, with options to book specific exhibition areas
and additional services.
The home of Mid-Century Design as a partner country
The partner country Denmark will also have its own Circle at the imm cologne
- and thus the attention that this major novelty of the fair deserves: for the
first time, the imm cologne has a partner country in Denmark. And one that fits
perfectly with this furnishing fair. Denmark is the home country of high-quality
craftsmanship and has repeatedly set trends in the design industry, from
mid-century style to hygge. Thanks to the country cooperation visitors can
expect not only contemporary design from their Scandinavian neighbors but
also an interesting program in terms of content. “The first country cooperation
that we have developed together with Danish Industry (DI) from Copenhagen is
definitely another highlight of the new imm cologne,” says Matthias Pollmann.
“And it’s a win-win situation: the imm cologne gets a new flagship and attractive
impulses from the birthplace of Scandinavian design. And the Danish companies
can present themselves efficiently to an international audience.”
