Afskedsreception
Tale v/ Birgit Nielsen, Dansk Nepalesisk Selskab, i forbindelse
med Ambassadør Vijaykant Lal Karna’s afskedsreception søndag
den 4. marts 2012.
Dear Mr. Ambassador, Dear
Mr. Karna, Dear Nepali and
Danish friends
We are gathered here today at
this humble farewell party in
appreciation and thanks for all
the good work you have zealously
performed in the service
of Danish-Nepali relations, and
we do hope that these relations
will grow to become even
stronger in the future, as a consequence
of your endeavours.
I clearly remember the first
time we met – 4 years ago –
it was a Monday morning in
February and at that time I was
still part of the Embassy staff.
You had come in Denmark to
take up the job as chief of the
Nepalese Embassy in Copenhagen.
And through the next
4 years I witnessed, first-hand,
your tireless efforts, unstinting
commitment, sincere dedication
and solid leadership. I also
came to know you and learn
how much work it actually took
to establish an Embassy.
And later, through several
other contexts of cooperation,
especially through the Denmark
Nepal Society, which I
am representing here today, I
witnessed your genuine enthusiasm
and sincerity.
From the beginning, Mr Ambassador,
you took a great
interest in the Denmark Nepal
Society. You made a point of
inviting our Society for several
functions at the Embassy.
You also never hesitated to offer
your enthusiastic support of
our organisations efforts, even
to the extent of joining in at
our tourist exhibitions promoting
Nepal.
We, at the society, also appreciated
the many occasions
when you attended and took
part in our meetings either as a
guest or speaking as the important
dignitary you are. Not only
did you give us valuable information
and insight about Nepal
but we learnt about ourselves
when you expressed your experiences
in Danish society.
Our Society will fondly remember
you, together with the Embassy
staff, taking part in the 40
years anniversary celebration
of Denmark Nepal Society in
Asia House - along with about
75 guests from the society.
Your auspicious presence on
that day of celebration made
the day an even stronger manifestation
of the goodwill and
long lasting relations between
our two countries.
It is therefore with heartfelt
praise that I can stand before
you all here today and say that
not only were we happy that
Nepal chose to set up a real
Embassy in Denmark, but we
have been especially happy
that they chose you Mr Karna
as the Nepal’s first Ambassador.
Yes, time has certainly passed
very, very quickly – 4 years
Efter 4 år på posten som Nepals ambassadør i Danmark vendte
V.J. Karna i marts i år tilbage til Nepal. Forinden blev lejligheden
dog markeret ved en afskedsreception søndag den 4. marts på
Restaurant Delikatessen på Vesterbrogade i København. Receptionen
var arrangeret af Non-Resident Nepali Association i samarbejde
med Dansk-Nepalesisk Selskab.
Desuden deltog en række politiske organisationer: danske afdelinger
af de tre store partier i Nepal.
Der blev holdt mange taler for Mr. Karna, der selv svarede med en
lang og personlig tale. Alle talerne var på Nepali, undtagen den
tale, Birgit Nielsen holdt på Dansk-Nepalesisk Selskabs vegne. Den
gengives nedenfor.

in your life becoming the first
Nepalese Ambassador to Denmark.
During the intervening
years I believe those of us who
have had acquaintance with
you have become better for
having known you.
In return, I hope that these
past 4 years have given you an
even greater insight into Europe
and especially Denmark, as
much as we have learnt about
you and Nepal.
I believe I speak for one and all
when I say that we thank you
for your good cooperation in
every respect and that we are
happy to have met you and to
have had you here in Denmark.
The future comes one day at a
time. We don`t know what the
future may offer you and your
family, but one thing we do
know is that you have a lot to
offer the future.
I would like to express on behalf
of all the members from
the Denmark Nepal Society our
very best wishes for you and
your family’s future happiness.
All the best for the future.
Finally, as a mark of our sincere
appreciation and as a memento
from Denmark and of the DNS
we would like to present to you
this humble gift. We hope that
when you view it, on occasion,
back in Nepal it will make
you recall some shared happy
memories from your years in
Denmark.

Dag 4 Kathmandu. Boudhanath-stupaen og tempelkomplekset
Pashupatinath.
Dag 5 Kongebyen Bhaktapur. Fly til Pokhara og afslapning.
