160 Schools will be taking part this year in the Growsmart competition

Two years ago, we introduced the Story Writing competition as an addition to
the Growsmart Literacy competition. This year we will introduce competitions
for maths and science.

The learners participating in the various competitions will all be from Grades 4
to 6, but each learner can only compete in one of the competitions. Schools will
therefore submit four teams of three learners, i.e. one team for each competition.
The number of participating learners therefore could be as much as 1 920.
2015 success

a learner whose team progressed
to the semi-finals of last year’s
competition, has been accepted
at Christel House South Africa.
To date, five Growsmart learners
have been accepted into the
school on a full scholarship.
Growsmart literacy
competition rounds
In Level 1 of the competition, 160 teams will compete in 32
competition rounds held over seven weeks. The winners of the
Level 1 competition rounds will advance to Level 2, with 40
teams competing in eight competition rounds over two weeks.
Thereafter, eight teams will compete in the semi-final and five
teams will compete in the Growsmart final on 3 September 2016.
