NOTE TO USERS
Several conventions have been employed in this dictionary.
The most notable is that when an English term can be rendered in
two very similar ways, wherein the second is an addition to the
first, parentheses are used:
desk - cuadro (de pupitre)
i.e., "desk" can be rendered as either "cuadro" or "cuadro de
pupitre." In addition, three-letter subject codes have been added
in cases where different Spanish terms are used in specific subject
areas. These subject codes are as follows:
AAA--antiaircraft artillery
ARM--armor (tanks, armored vehicles, armored forces)
ART--artillery (guns, mortars, auxiliary equipment)
AUT--automotive (vehicles, maintenance, related equipment)
AVI--aviation (air forces, aircraft, aerospace, avionics)
COM--communications
ELT--electricity, power engineering
ENG--engineering (heavy equipment, maintenance, combat engineering)
NAV--naval (naval forces, naval equipment, ships, shipbuilding,
navigation)
RAD--radar
RDO--radio
RIF--riflery (small arms, ammunition, ground forces)
ROC--rocketry (missiles, rockets, control systems, related
equipment)
RRD--railroads
TOP--topography (cartography, terrain, surveying)
