Emergency Survival Guide Available Online<br />

the los angeles county office of emergency Management has<br />

published a guide to emergency preparedness intended to help<br />

the residents of the los angeles county unincorporated areas<br />

better prepare for, respond to, and recover from disasters. the<br />

county’s emergency survival guide is now available online<br />

exciting developments on the Resource<br />

center have taken place within the last<br />

year! Preliminary designs have been<br />

drawn for the new community center<br />

that will be located on telegraph Road at<br />

Valley View avenue, the former sheriff’s<br />

Department training field (staRs center).<br />

the center will be approximately 19,000<br />

square feet and will provide multi-purpose<br />

recreational spaces for all ages, as well as<br />

family and youth services provided through<br />

Helpline youth counseling.<br />

several community meetings were held<br />

to obtain input from residents on the type<br />

of facility and programs best suited for the<br />

Whittier unincorporated area. Drawing concepts,<br />

resulting from this feedback, were presented to<br />

the community for this new state of the art facility.<br />

construction is set to begin in early 2013 with a<br />

completion date of 2014. the board of supervisors<br />

has committed funding for this project.<br />

this project is being designed by HMc architects,<br />

and managed by the community Development<br />

commission of the county of los angeles. for<br />
