of the State as a producer of the patriotic
story in contemporary neo-populisms.
In the same way, postulating the central
role of the sporting hero in these
narratives, he analyzes the passage from
Diego Maradona to Lionel Messi:
from the pibe to the nice guy. Key Words
Club: Sankt Pauli, the «Anti-Capitalist»
Team [3989]
Who said that football is the opium
of the people? In the red zone in
Hamburg there is a club that is
defined as anti-racist, anti-fascist, and
anti-homophobic. In the stadium’s
stands hang flags with the face of «Che»
Guevara. Its supporters are punks,
prostitutes, and poets. In fc Sankt Pauli
everything is exotic: it was the first
football club to have an openly gay
president, some of the players
participated in the Solidarity Brigades
with the Nicaraguan Revolution, and
others have done preseasons in Cuba.
Their merchandise has the motto: «Love
Sankt Pauli, Hate Racism» and their
financing comes, almost entirely, from
membership input. Key Words: Football,
Punk, Anti-Capitalism, Anti-Racism, fc
Sankt Pauli.
and Politics in Argentine Football
[3990]
Discussing the process of politicization of
football implies restoring the meanings
that politics has from the point of view
of its participants. This article focuses on
three aspects that are tightly connected:
the working of the political field in
sporting institutions, the circulation and
dual membership of politicians – who
act simultaneously in football and
other traditional political ambits – and,
finally, the practices and strategies which
are developed during election time.
Key Words: Football, Politics, Clubs, Fans,
Club Atlético Independiente, Argentina.
Carlos D. Mesa Gisbert: Football and
Height: The Dramatic Story of La Paz
and Bolivian Football [3991]
Since the end of the 90s a debate has
emerged around international games
at over 2,500 or 3,000 meters above sea
level. On various occasions, fifa has
vetoed games at such height, to then
later go back on itself. The last
attempt was in the mid-2000s, when
Evo Morales – first indigenous president
in Bolivia and amateur player – started
an international campaign against
the veto. In this article, a broad
analysis unfolds about the relationship
between football and height: based
on historical, social, cultural, and
medical reasons, argues in favor of the
universality of football, which is played
in various «extreme zones» of
the globe. Key Words: Football, Height,
Veto, Fédération Internationale de Football
Association (f i fa), La Paz, Bolivia.
Beyond Fetishes [3992]
Nothing as elusive as identity in
this unreal reality of football. Absolute
identities are no longer possible in
contemporary liquid and gas flow.
The identity of football dates from
a birth without fanfare in 1863, but it
always had a vocation towards the
postmodern, since the game is based
from the beginning on the lightness
of presence. Why do Ladino American
national sides rival the Europeans,
despite the asymmetry in socioeconomic
levels? Our region has always lived
in conditions which are today new
for the rest of the contemporary world:
displacement, bias and con-fusion
between the virtual and the real, which,
