En el Valle de Chitral, Pakistán, se encuentra el gran pueblo de Kalash. Este pueblo
vivía allí, mucho antes de que el conquistador Alejandro Magno llegará a la región.
Los kalasha defienden un rico patrimonio cultural con creencias politeístas, festivales
de temporada y una variedad de otras tradiciones, que están en contradicción con el
Islam dominante de Pakistán. Hoy en día, los majestuosos picos de las montañas de
Hindu Kush, protegen a los Kalash de la peor violencia de la región. Su cultura se
enfrenta a una variedad de presiones: el turismo de la pobreza y el islamismo están
contribuyendo a la erosión de la identidad Kalash. Actualmente un grupo de
defensores de los Kalash luchan para mantener viva su cultura. En mayo de 2013, el
director Iara Lee viajó al Valle de Chitral para documentar el "Festival de Primavera
Joshi". Los Kalash y la Media Luna, utilizan el festival como un punto de entrada en
esta vibrante comunidad y las preguntas difíciles que enfrenta. ¿Qué hace la
conversión al Islam, ya sea forzada o voluntaria, para la identidad Kalash? ¿Pueden
las tradiciones Kalash resistir los desafíos planteados por la globalización, por un

El documental "Triatominos, eslabones de una enfermedad", tiene como objetivo
contribuir a una mejor comprensión de las principales especies de triatominos,
relacionados con la transmisión de la enfermedad de Chagas. Aunque la transmisión
vectorial de la enfermedad de Chagas sólo ocurre en el continente americano, el
documental alerta sobre la presencia de los insectos vectores en países de otros
continentes y su adaptación a las viviendas de algunos países de Asia.
Un viaje a través de las estadísticas de esperanza de vida en la ciudad de Glasgow,
donde ésta es una de las más bajas del mundo. Nos encontramos con los residentes
y expertos, que están tratando de cambiar los resultados de salud para las
generaciones futuras locales. ¿Podría estar la respuesta en nuestros genes?¿Podría la
epigenética ser la causa del exceso de mortalidad en la mayor ciudad de Escocia? ¿O
es la respuesta mucho más simple que eso? Una mirada conmovedora y sensible en
que las desigualdades sociales juegan con nuestra salud y esperanza de vida.
Rumored to be the descendants of Alexander the Great the Kalash people have in
fact inhabited northern Pakistan's Chitral Valley since long before the legendary
conqueror came to the region. They uphold a rich cultural heritage with polytheistic
beliefs seasonal festivals and a variety of other traditions that are at odds with
Pakistan's dominant Islam. Today even as the majestic peaks of the Hindu Kush
Mountains shield the Kalasha from the region's worst violence their culture faces a
variety of pressures: poverty tourism and Islamism are all contributing to the
erosion of Kalash identity. Still a dedicated group of Kalash advocates are fighting to
keep their culture alive. In May 2013 director Iara Lee traveled to the Chitral Valley
to document the Kalash spring festival Joshi. The Kalasha and the Crescent uses the
festival as an entry point into this vibrant community and the tough questions facing
it. What does conversion to Islam—whether forced or spontaneous—mean for Kalash
identity? Can Kalash traditions withstand the challenges brought by globalization on
the one hand and by religious tensions on the other? Join members of the Kalash
community and observers from around the world as they reckon with these
questions.
The documentary Triatomines - Vector of disease It aims to contribute to a better
understanding of the main triatomine species related to the transmission of chagas
disease. Although vector transmission of chagas disease occurs only in the Americas
the documentary warning of the presence of insect vectors in countries of other
continents and their adaptation to the homes of some countries in Asia.
A journey across Glasgow’s life expectancy statistics to the East End where the city
is blighted by some of the lowest life expectancies in the world. We meet local
residents and experts who are trying to change the health outcomes for future
generations. Could the answer lie in our genes? Could epigenetics be the root cause
of excess mortality in Scotland’s biggest city? Or is the answer much simpler than
that? A touching and sensitive look at the ways in which social inequalities are
played out in our health and life expectancy.
