14.14.114.214.314.414.515.15.115.215.315.416.MAINTENANCE INSTRUCTIONSAfter use and before performing maintenance, unplug and disconnect the batterycharger (see sections 6, 7 and 8).Use a dry cloth to wipe all battery corrosion and other dirt or oil from the terminals,cords, and the charger case.Ensure that all of the charger components are in place and in good working condition,for example, the plastic boots on the battery clips.Servicing does not require opening the unit, as there are no user-serviceable parts.All other servicing should be performed by qualified service personnel.Moving and STORAGE INSTRUCTIONSStore the charger unplugged, in an upright position. The cord will still conduct electricityuntil it is unplugged from the outlet.Store inside, in a cool, dry place.Do not store the clips on the handle, clipped together, on or around metal, or clipped tocables.If the charger is moved around the shop or transported to another location, take care toavoid/prevent damage to the cords, clips and charger. Failure to do so could result inpersonal injury or property damage.TROUBLESHOOTINGPROBLEM POSSIBLE CAU<strong>SE</strong> REASON/SOLUTIONNo reading on the ammeter.Charger is not plugged in.Plug the charger into an AC outlet.Ammeter reading stayshigh.No power at the receptacle.Clips are not making a goodconnection to the battery.Connections are reversed.Battery is defective (will notaccept a charge).Battery is severelydischarged.Wrong battery voltage.Check for open fuse or circuit breakersupplying AC outlet.Check for poor connection to batteryand frame. Make sure connectionpoints are clean. Rock clips back andforth for a better connection.Unplug the charger and reverse theclips.Have battery checked.Continue charging battery for twomore hours. If problem continueshave the battery checked.Verify the voltage settings on thecharger are correct.Ammeter reads less thanselected charge rate whencharging a dischargedbattery.Extension cord is too long orwire gauge is too small.Weak cell or sulfated platein battery.Battery is only partiallydischarged.Use a shorter or heavier gaugeextension cord.A sulfated battery will eventually takea normal charge if left connected.If the battery will not take a charge,have it checked.Continue to charge the battery.• 8 •
