PASTO– NARIÑO
Pasto es un municipio colombiano, capital del departamento de Nariño. La
cabecera municipal tiene el nombre de San Juan de Pasto.
Ha sido centro administrativo cultural y religioso de la región desde la
época de la colonia. Durante el siglo XIX, debido a la aguerrida defensa de
la ciudad que protagonizaron sus habitantes en la Independencia de Colombia,
se le conoció como «La Leona de los Andes». La ciudad de Pasto es
también conocida como «Ciudad sorpresa de Colombia».
Como capital departamental, alberga las sedes de la Gobernación de Nariño,
la Asamblea Departamental, el Tribunal del Distrito Judicial, la Fiscalía
General de la Nación, y en general sedes de instituciones de los organismos
del Estado.
Es la décimo séptima ciudad más poblada de Colombia.

It has been cultural and religious administrative center of the region from
the time of the colony. During the nineteenth century, due to the fierce
defense of the city that carried out their inhabitants in the Independence
of Colombia, was known as "The Lioness of the Andes". The city of Pasto
is also known as "Surprise City of Colombia".
As a departmental capital, it houses the headquarters of the Government
of Nariño, the Departmental Assembly, the Court of the Judicial District,
the Office of the Attorney General, and in general, headquarters of institutions
of the State agencies.
It is the seventeenth most populous city in Colombia.
