In recent years, Guanajuato has become the most
important automotive center in Latin America; with
assembly plants like: General Motors, Mazda, Honda, Hino,
and Toyota; that will be assembling more than 1 million
vehicles by 2020. This industry also includes major suppliers
such as: Volkswagen, Ford, Denso, Faurecia, Lear, Pirelli,
GKN, Continental, Magna, American Axle, Michelin, and
Hella, among others.
These companies conform a consolidated automotive
cluster with dynamic growth, experience, and strong-export
orientation; sending abroad 80% of its production, to more
than 60 countries. These conditions have helped it to develop
work ethics at a world-class level. Furthermore, it is also
distinguished by its skilled labor, which is characterized by its
adaptability to different working environments, models, and
techniques.
A network of over 500 auto part-component suppliers
was generated and strengthened by these companies; also
capable of meeting the most demanding requirements, and
covering a wide range of processes, and components such as:
engines and transmissions; axles; suspension and exhaust
systems; tires; textiles and leather products; car batteries;
electrical systems, and small parts: springs, screws, hoses;
as well as metal, rubber, and plastic components.
Guanajuato´s Trade Commission (COFOCE) in alliance
with the Guanajuato Automotive Cluster (CLAUGTO) have
developed the GTO- Automotive program, whose mission
is to place the Automotive Industry of Guanajuato, as an
international-strategic center of reliable supply-chain.
