- Verb Rules / Reglas del verbo

❖ Rule 01: Verbs that end in “e” delete the “e” and add “ing”.

1. Make - making hacer / haciendo

2. Write - writing escribir / escribiendo

3. Dance - dancing bailar / bailando

❖ Rule 02: Verbs that end in “ie” delete the “ie” and add “ying”.

1. Lie - lying mentir / mintiendo

2. Die - dying morir / muriendo

3. Tie - tying amarrar / amarrando

❖ Rule 03: Verbs that end one end in one vowel and one consonant double the consonant and add

“ing”.

1. Swim - swimming nadar / nadando

2. Stop - stopping parar / parando

3. Run - running correr / corriendo

❖ Rule 04: If the verb ends in two consonants, don’t double the consonants.

1. Work - working trabajar / trabajando

2. Help - helping ayudar / ayudando

3. Wash - washing lavar / lavando

❖ Rule 05: If the verb ends in two vowels and one consonant, don’t double the consonant.

1. Weed - needing necesitar / necesitando

2. Wait - waiting esperar / esperando

3. Speak - speaking hablar / hablando

❖ Rule 06: If the last syllable is not stressed, do not double the consonant.

1. Happen - happening suceder / sucediendo

2. Visit - visiting visitor / visitando

3. Remember - remembering recordar / recordando

❖ Rule 07: If the last syllable is stressed, double the last consonant.

1. Begin - beginnig empezar / empezando

2. Prefer - preferring preferir / prefiriendo

3. Forget - forgetting olvidar / olvidando

❖ Rule 08: If the verb ends in “y” or “w”, don’t double the consonant.

1. Enjoy - making disfrutar / disfrutando

2. Blow - writing soplar / soplando

3. Study - dancing estudiar / estudiando

4. Snow - snowing nevar / nevando
