When did it become flowers and chocolate and<br />
blah blah blah<br />
Why can?t I go to the grocery store<br />
And get power puff girls themed valentines?<br />
When did we stop expecting valentines in<br />
decorated tissue boxes?<br />
When did love become a thing wasted on the<br />
wealthy<br />
Why does it matter if I bought you flowers?<br />
I wrote you a poem on a cereal box<br />
I filled it with pencils and Hershey?s<br />
Why is my love something trivialized by how much<br />
money I spend<br />
Poetry is free<br />
T his is the way I convey my love<br />
T here are pages and pages of poems<br />
Hastily written in my notes app<br />
Casually scrawled on napkins<br />
And the back of receipts<br />
At the shitty diners we used to go to<br />
You?d leave them on the table<br />
To be thrown away by waitresses<br />
Without a second glance<br />
And though poetry is free<br />
