-- Queneau's supposed dislike of or disinterest in music has to be tempered somewhat
by the presence of music in Zazie dans le métro, among other works. Bach's fugues
are said to be at the root of the Exercices (cf. Queneau, Preface to Exercices de
style), of which a number were put to music. Loin de Rueil was made into a musical
by Pillaudin. Queneau wrote the lyrics for "La Croqueuse de diamants," "Gervaise,"
and "Le Vélo magique." And Juliette Gréco made a hit of Queneau's "Si tu
t'imagines..." at Sartre's suggestion (but see her entry in the bibliographical index).
-- There was a group which worked on music in the same way that the Oulipo works
on literature. Cf. Noël Arnaud, "Littérature combinatoire," p. 694, and the
"Oulipo" entry.
