Santropol Roulant at a GlanceSantropol Roulant is a Montreal-based community organizationfounded and run by young people. We use food as a vehicle tobreak social and economic isolation between generations andto strengthen and nourish our local community. We do thisthrough our meals-on-wheels, urban agriculture, volunteer andintergenerational programs.Our aim is to bring the most nutritious food to the table. Wegrow and buy organic produce wherever possible to supportlocal farmers and a sustainable food system, and, of course, touse the most nutrient-rich foods for our meals-on-wheels!Our Meals-on-Wheels ServiceSantropol Roulant’s primary program is a meals-on-wheels serviceorganized by young people (and the young at heart!). Wedeliver much more than just meals to seniors – we break socialisolation and bring generations together.Since 1995, with the energy of thousands of volunteers, we havemade 420,000 meals and delivered them by bicycle, on foot andby car to 8 different neighbourhoods in Montreal.Growing Our CommunityWe believe that our meals-on-wheels is a catalyst thatcontributes to a larger mission of building a healthy anddynamic community. All of our projects enrich the way inwhich we deliver our mission and allow us to work with thecycles of the seasons, and of life! Our projects include:The Rooftop Garden. Volunteers grow fresh produce forour meals-on-wheels; weekly Fresh Produce Basket, andneighborhood markets.Kitchen Workshops. An opportunity for the community to cook& learn together.Horticultural Workshops. Gaining new skills in urbangardening.Garden to Table Workshops. Creating meals together withproduce from the garden.Intergenerational Programs. Projects designed by & for ourclient, staff & volunteer members.Worm Composting. Transforming organic kitchen waste intocompost for the garden.Community Bike Workshop - Santrovélo. A community spacewhere volunteers and the public can repair their bicycles underthe guidance of a mechanic.The Santropol Roulant CommunityWho Receives Our MealsAll our clients are referred to us by CLSCs, social workers, hospitals, family doctorsand other health care professionals. Clients are eligible for our service ifthey are living with a loss of autonomy, are malnourished, socially isolated orliving under the poverty line.Volunteers!Santropol Roulant volunteers are a diverse and enthusiastic group of people fromMontreal and around the world! The majority are young people between the agesof 14 and 35 but we welcome and encourage people of all ages to get involved.Santropol Roulant volunteers contribute over 2000 volunteer hours a month!StaffWe are a passionate and dedicated team - and we love what we do!
