Keep handles dry, clean and free from oil<br />

and grease.<br />

• Disconnect tools. Disconnect wh<strong>en</strong> not<br />

in use, before servicing and wh<strong>en</strong><br />

changing accessories such as blades,<br />

bits and cutters. Unplug before carrying<br />

out any adjustm<strong>en</strong>t, servicing or<br />

maint<strong>en</strong>ance.<br />

• Remove adjusting keys and wr<strong>en</strong>ches.<br />

Form the habit of checking to see that<br />

keys and adjusting wr<strong>en</strong>ches are<br />

removed from the tool before switching<br />

it on.<br />

• Avoid unint<strong>en</strong>tional starting. Do not<br />

carry a plugged-in tool with a finger on<br />

the switch. Ensure the switch is off wh<strong>en</strong><br />

plugging in.<br />

• Use outdoor ext<strong>en</strong>sion cords. Wh<strong>en</strong> a<br />

tool is used outdoors, use only ext<strong>en</strong>sion<br />

cords int<strong>en</strong>ded for outdoor use and so<br />

marked.<br />

• Stay alert. Watch what you are doing.<br />

Use common s<strong>en</strong>se. Do not operate<br />

wh<strong>en</strong> you are tired.<br />

• Connect dust extraction equipm<strong>en</strong>t.<br />

lf devices are provided for the connection<br />

of dust extraction and collection<br />

facilities, <strong>en</strong>sure these are connected and<br />

properly used.<br />

• Check damaged parts. Before further<br />

use of the tool, a guard or other part that<br />

is damaged should be carefully checked<br />

to determine whether it will operate<br />

properly and perform its int<strong>en</strong>ded<br />

function. Check for alignm<strong>en</strong>t of moving<br />

parts, binding of moving parts, breakage<br />

of parts, mounting and any other<br />

conditions that may affect its operation.<br />

A guard or other part that is damaged<br />

should be properly repaired or replaced<br />

by an authorised service c<strong>en</strong>tre unless<br />

otherwise indicated in this instruction<br />

manual. Have defective switches<br />

replaced by an authorised service c<strong>en</strong>tre.<br />

Do not use the tool if the switch does not<br />

turn it on and off.<br />

attachm<strong>en</strong>t, other than recomm<strong>en</strong>ded in this<br />

instruction manual, may pres<strong>en</strong>t a risk of<br />

Training<br />

• Never allow childr<strong>en</strong> or persons who are<br />

unfamiliar with this type of machine to<br />

use it, nor anyone who has not read<br />

this leaflet.<br />

• Do not allow childr<strong>en</strong>, animals or other<br />

persons near your machine wh<strong>en</strong> in use<br />

- always keep them at least 6m (20ft)<br />

away from the cutting area.<br />

• Remember that the operator/user<br />

is responsible for accid<strong>en</strong>ts or<br />

hazards occurring to other people or<br />

their property.<br />

• We recomm<strong>en</strong>d a first time user should<br />

get informed practical instruction on how<br />

to use a hedgetrimmer as well as using<br />

this manual.<br />

• Do not store your hedgetrimmer and<br />

<strong>en</strong>ergy pack in locations where the<br />

temperature may reach or exceed 40˚C,<br />

such as gre<strong>en</strong>houses or metal sheds.<br />

• Do not attempt to charge your <strong>en</strong>ergy<br />

pack with any charger other than those<br />

specifically designed by Black & Decker<br />

for use with Black & Decker chargers.<br />

• Do not incinerate the <strong>en</strong>ergy pack ev<strong>en</strong> if<br />

it is severely damaged or completely<br />

worn out. The <strong>en</strong>ergy pack can explode<br />

in a fire.<br />

• A small leakage of liquid from the battery<br />

cells may occur under extreme usage or<br />

temperature conditions. This does not<br />

indicate a failure. However, if the outer<br />

case seal is brok<strong>en</strong> and this leakage gets<br />

on your skin:<br />

• Wash quickly with soap and water.<br />

• Neutralise with a mild acid such as<br />

lemon juice or vinegar.<br />

• If battery liquid gets into your eyes,<br />

flush them with clear water for a<br />

minimum of 10 minutes and seek<br />

immediate medical att<strong>en</strong>tion.<br />

(Medical note: The liquid is a<br />

25-35% solution of potassium<br />

hydroxide).<br />

Warning! Fire hazard! Avoid any possibility<br />

of metal short circuiting the electrical<br />

contacts of the <strong>en</strong>ergy pack (i.e. keys carried<br />

in the same pocket as <strong>en</strong>ergy pack).<br />
