Abstract: Garcinia benthami Pierre (syn Garcinia ferrea Pierre) is also known as Bunog by

the Cuyunin tribe and Tagbanua in Palawan Philippines. The compounds present in the

dichloromethane (DCM) extract of roots, fruit peels, fruit seeds, fruit fleshes, stem barks,

leaves and flowers were isolated by using normal phase chromatography and identified by

NMR spectroscopic technique. Triacylglycerol (TAG) was isolated in extract of roots, stem

barks, flesh and seed of the fruits. Squalene was isolated from roots, fruit peels, stem barks

and fruit fleshes extract. Caryophyllene (CAR) was isolated from fruit peels and leaves extract.

Methyl (24E)-3 α ,9 α , 23-trihydroxy-17,14-friedolanosta-14,24-dien-26-oate was isolated

from fruit peels, leaves and flowers extract. While the mixture of β -sitosterol and

stigmasterol was obtained from flowers and fruit seeds extract. Chlorophyll a and α –

carotene were only isolated from the leaves and friedelin was only isolated from stem barks

extract. A new triterpene (24E)-23 acetoxy-3α-hydroxylanostane-9(11), 16, 24-trien-26-oic

acid were isolated from the roots extract and obtained as part of the mixture with (22Z, 24E)-

9 α -hydroxy-3-oxo-17,14-friedolanosta-14,22-24-trien-26-oic acid and a new triterpene

(24E)-9 α -hydroxy-3-oxo-17,14-friedolanosta-14, 24-dien-26-oic acid from the fruit peels

extract. Another mixture of triterpenes, (22Z, 24E)-9α-hydroxy-3-oxo-17,14-friedolanosta-

14,22-24-trien-26-oic acid and Methyl (24E)-9,23-dihydroxy-3-oxo-17,14-friedolanostan-

14,24-dien-26-oate (another new triterpene) was obtained from the stem barks.
