Rules and Regulation<br />
Open to all <strong>Malaysia</strong>n designers, students and<br />
individuals;<br />
Design ideas must be original and has yet to be<br />
commercialised, displayed or shown to any<br />
manufacturer;<br />
Any entries which have been submitted for any<br />
competition are not qualified to participate in the<br />
competition. The organiser has the right to reject<br />
and revoke any entries and prizes, if they are<br />
found to have submitted their entries in any<br />
competition previously.<br />
Every submission is eligible to participate in one<br />
category as follows :<br />
School Student Category<br />
School students aged 18 and below<br />
University / College Student Category<br />
Students from local university or college<br />
Professional Category<br />
Employed or self employed designers of any<br />
design discipline, and interested individual.<br />
5. Ideas which were designed while studying<br />
cannot be submitted under the Professional<br />
Category;<br />
6. Individual participation is encouraged and group<br />
participation is also allowed but must not be<br />
more than two person;<br />

Aim<br />
To recognise young talents for their contribution<br />
in developing design in <strong>Malaysia</strong>.<br />
Objectives<br />
To promote and upgrade the creativity of local<br />
talents by contributing ideas to the industrial<br />
sector through innovative and competitive<br />
product concepts.<br />
Platform for local designers and manufacturers to<br />
combine their expertise in manufacturing quality<br />
products, besides encouraging science and<br />
technology research and development activities.<br />
Competition Theme<br />
'Cultural Creative Industry' -<br />
From Traditional to Modern Design<br />
is the exploitation of the best in creative arts and<br />
crafts into marketable commodities that<br />
aesthetically pleasing cultural and creative idea<br />
which can lead to the transformation of products<br />
and gift industry. It demonstrates how the<br />
convergence of creativity, technology and the<br />
arts in which to create new concepts and<br />
products.<br />
The organiser cannot be held liable and<br />
responsible for any damages, claims or lost of<br />
ideas before or after the competition;<br />
8. Design protection according to the Intellectual<br />
Property Rights Act - All participants are<br />
encouraged to register their designs under the<br />
Intellectual Property Rights Act and to keep all<br />
documentations as a proof of ownership before<br />
sending or exposing their design to the<br />
organiser;<br />
9. Selected designs will be kept for promotion and<br />
documentation purposes;<br />
10. The organiser will inform any participants if their<br />
submissions are selected for commercialisation<br />
and they also have the right to receive any<br />
compensation based on the agreement between<br />
both parties;<br />
11. Unsuccessful submission can be collected back<br />
by the designer within one month after the<br />
winning announcement. Any unclaimed<br />
submissions within that period will be disposed.<br />

Evaluation Criteria<br />
The organiser has the right to appoint any jury to<br />
evaluate the participating entries and decisions<br />
made by the panel of jury is final. The evaluation<br />
is based on:<br />
Product Innovativeness<br />
Usage of new or improved methods which<br />
benefits the users<br />
Functionality<br />
Fulfilling its intended functions, reliability and<br />
problem solving<br />
Symbolic and Emotional Content<br />
Products with attractive elements<br />
Quality<br />
The idea shows quality of manufacturing and<br />
design with full utilization of materials and<br />
technology<br />
Ergonomic<br />
Interaction between product, user and the<br />
environment; physically and psychologically<br />
Ecology Traits<br />
Environmental friendly traits that are incorporated<br />
into the product, whether it affects the user or<br />
environment (example: selection of material for<br />
recycling, reduction of pollution to the<br />
environment, sound and scent).<br />
Quality of Presentation<br />
The whole idea / design presentable which<br />
qualify its designers to be awarded as the winner<br />
such as the quality of its prototype / model,<br />
writing, sketches and drawing presentation, etc.<br />
Entry Submission<br />
Preliminary Submission<br />
Every submission must be sent together with a<br />
complete original or photocopied form, which<br />
can be downloaded from MRM website<br />
(separate form for every submission).<br />
Every submission must be accompanied with a<br />
brief report (not more than 500 words) which is<br />
typed on an A4 paper on the design rationale or<br />
information, benefits to the users and marketing<br />
strategies.<br />
Name, signature, institution's name, company's<br />
name and designer's photo are not to be written<br />
or pasted at the front or back page of any<br />
drawings, documents and sketches.<br />
Participants must also send the followings :<br />
- Idea development drawings<br />
- Presentation drawings (top, front, back<br />
and side view)<br />
- Technical drawings (top, front, back and<br />
side view)<br />
- Other related matters<br />
Note : Participants are free to choose their<br />
materials when presenting their ideas, but must<br />
be on an A3 size paper.<br />
Submission dateline for early submission is on<br />
the 30th of September 2010<br />
Final Submission<br />
Only 18 ideas or designs will proceed to the final<br />
stage.<br />
Participants must choose to submit a full-scale<br />
model or prototype which describes their design<br />
Participants are free to choose their materials<br />
when preparing their model or prototype<br />
Model or prototype must be of quality and<br />
presentable<br />
The organiser cannot be held responsible for any<br />
damages, claims or lost of ideas before or after<br />
the competition<br />
Submission dateline for final submission is on<br />
the 30th of November 2010<br />

Every participant will receive a certificate.<br />
