-(mc) And today we have the bomb of “Derailing Beirut”, another body sarcastically subjected to remote control, imprisoned: in a “strangelove” for a city that in Khoury’s eyes is a simulacrum of itself, available for the use of logics that also make it a cultural “enemy camp”, the tourist is shipped as if this were the last amusement park. On the one hand, in his battle against the elitism of the discipline, in his approach to reality with the “vulgar” things of entertainment and the also absurd demands of his wealthy clients, Khoury takes his luxury gadgets to a critical degree of perversion. On the other, he continues to distill radical thinking without complaining, but with a substrate of irony and solid pleasure in which architecture always plays a positive role. -(mc) pOW 08 cOnOps 2008 Invitato alla mostra “youprison. riflessioni sulla limitazione di spazio e libertà” alla Fondazione sandretto re rebaudengo di torino, khoury presenta un apparato per la restituzione dei prigionieri di guerra: un dispositivo metallico in cui il corpo del prigioniero è intrappolato e guidato dall’esterno fino alle linee nemiche, che può raggiungere con il movimento delle braccia seguendo le istruzioni che gli vengono impartite e che solo il medium della macchina può trasmettergli. photos: dW5/Bernard khoury Invited to participate in the exhibition “youprison. reflections on the limitation of space and freedom” at the Fondazione sandretto re rebaudengo in turin, khoury created an apparatus for the restitution of prisoners of war: a metal device in which the body of the prisoner is trapped and guided, from outside, as far as the enemy lines, which can be reached by movement of the arms, following transmitted instructions that can only arrive through the medium of the machine.
