Bromus nottowayanus Fern. reported for southern
Ontario by Wagnon (1952) “with mapped
records from the Niagara Peninsula
[Regional Municipality of Niagara] and at
the eastern end of Lake Ontario (probably
within New York State)” is said to be
closely related to B. pubescens, the sheaths
densely pubescent at the summit, “but has
a 5-nerved upper glume and may be the
result of hybridization of that species with
B. altissimus or even B. kalmii” (Dore &
McNeill 1980). Morton and Venn (1990)
indicate that B. nottowayanus is probably
B. pubescens as does Voss (1972). Not
noted for New York State by Mitchell and
Tucker (1997).
