Ramadan
In this period, Muslims all over the world abstain from food, drink and other physical needs. In fact, Muslims can eat
only before the sunrise and the sunset, they skip lunch and breakfast is done really early in the morning. Muslims
can eat only at night when their god Allah ‘can’t see them’, and they do this for 40 days. At the end of Ramadan,
they have a three day long holiday to celebrate.
St. Lucia
Saint Lucia is celebrated on December 13 th all over
Sweden. They sing a special song, wear a long dress
and light candles. In Italian, there is also a very old
proverb that says ‘Santa Lucia is the shortest day of
the year,’ which used to be true until a Pope changed
the calendar. Many people still think it’s the shortest
day of the year, even though they are wrong.
Chinese New Year
The Chinese New Year is the longest and most important festivity in the Chinese
calendar. In China it is known as ‘spring festival’, and it marks the end of the
winter season and a new horoscope. The festival begins on the first day of the
first month in the traditional Chinese calendar and ends with the lantern
festival, which is on the 15th day. People get married, children receive money,
everyone eats a lot of food, and visits family.
