Ramadan<br />
In this period, Muslims all over the world abstain from food, drink and other physical needs. In fact, Muslims can eat<br />
only before the sunrise and the sunset, they skip lunch and breakfast is done really early in the morning. Muslims<br />
can eat only at night when their god Allah ‘can’t see them’, and they do this for 40 days. At the end <strong>of</strong> Ramadan,<br />
they have a three day long holiday to celebrate.<br />
St. Lucia<br />
Saint Lucia is celebrated on December 13 th all over<br />
Sweden. <strong>The</strong>y sing a special song, wear a long dress<br />
and light candles. In Italian, there is also a very old<br />
proverb that says ‘Santa Lucia is the shortest day <strong>of</strong><br />
the year,’ which used to be true until a Pope changed<br />
the calendar. Many people still think it’s the shortest<br />
day <strong>of</strong> the year, even though they are wrong.<br />
Chinese New Year<br />
<strong>The</strong> Chinese New Year is the longest and most important festivity in the Chinese<br />
calendar. In China it is known as ‘spring festival’, and it marks the end <strong>of</strong> the<br />
winter season and a new horoscope. <strong>The</strong> festival begins on the first day <strong>of</strong> the<br />
first month in the traditional Chinese calendar and ends with the lantern<br />
festival, which is on the 15th day. People get married, children receive money,<br />
everyone eats a lot <strong>of</strong> food, and visits family.
