…..from the research aspect of this case, it is important to note that this was the first<br />
time <strong>HF</strong> r<strong>ad</strong>ar currents data were used for progressive and hind-cast simu<strong>la</strong>tion of<br />
an oil spill.<br />
It was proven that <strong>HF</strong> currents data used here enabled a very precise progressive<br />
simu<strong>la</strong>tion. The same is expected to be the case for backtracking, but this is only<br />
possible when floating oil is close to the surface.<br />
From the training aspect this is again a good example which may be used as a scenario<br />
for improving crisis management response of stakeholders.<br />
A case like this underscores the importance of long term monitoring systems in the<br />
CleanSeaNet service run by the European Maritime Safety Agency<br />
