Annual Wines from
Spain Trade Fair
This year we have made one or two changes. The annual showcase for
Spanish wine has moved to Tobacco Dock in east London, a location with a
rich heritage that has reinvented itself and taken on a contemporary guise.
Of course you could say the same about the Spanish wine scene these
days…
We feel that this new venue will enable exhibitors to show how dynamic and
vibrant Spain’s wine offering is across all styles, from the traditional to the
modern. Being at Tobacco Dock has also made it possible to add exciting
new features including our very own pop-up Spanish tapas bar where
Spanish chef José Pizarro will be serving a selection of tapas and regional
dishes for lunch.
Today 70 importers and exporters will show over 1,300 wines from a huge
variety of wine regions taking in both mainland Spain, the Canary Islands
and Majorca. Around the stands you’ll be able to taste the very latest wines
from the 2014 vintage – quality was generally high after excellent conditions
for ripening over the summer months and into early autumn.
When it comes to red wines, Spain can offer both the long-established
favourites and exciting new grapes and styles. Rioja is represented today
with over 300 wines ranging from young, fruity Tempranillo wines to fine
oak-aged styles. There are also the classy and highly distinctive wines of
Priorat and Ribera del Duero to consider and wines offering both character
and great value for money from the Garnacha heartland comprising Campo
de Borja, Calatayud and Cariñena.
Looking for something different Why not check out the red wines of DO
Granada in Spain’s deep and scenic south. Meanwhile the new DO of Sierra
de Salamanca, to the west, is represented for the first time championing the
Rufete grape.
The white wine regions – DO Rías Baixas and DO Rueda – are here in force
with a wide selection of Albariño and Verdejo wines respectively. But there is
far more. The Chacolí wines of the Basque Country are ideal for consumers
seeking a particularly light, fresh wine style while DO Valdeorras has entered
the premier league of Spanish whites thanks to the Godello grape.
Spain’s very own sparkling wine, Cava, is a popular choice for the UK
consumer and is well represented today. Exhibitors will pop open over 50
different wines, many of them at a higher quality level compared to previous
years.
So there is plenty to discover today. We hope that you enjoy the tasting and
find plenty of inspiration for your portfolio and your customers.
