Annual Wines from<br />
Spain Trade Fair<br />
This year we have made one or two changes. The annual showcase for<br />
Spanish wine has moved to Tobacco Dock in east London, a location with a<br />
rich heritage that has reinvented itself and taken on a contemporary guise.<br />
Of course you could say the same about the Spanish wine scene these<br />
days…<br />
We feel that this new venue will enable exhibitors to show how dynamic and<br />
vibrant Spain’s wine offering is across all styles, from the traditional to the<br />
modern. Being at Tobacco Dock has also made it possible to add exciting<br />
new features including our very own pop-up Spanish tapas bar where<br />
Spanish chef José Pizarro will be serving a selection of tapas and regional<br />
dishes for lunch.<br />
Today 70 importers and exporters will show over 1,300 wines from a huge<br />
variety of wine regions taking in both mainland Spain, the Canary Islands<br />
and Majorca. Around the stands you’ll be able to taste the very latest wines<br />
from the 2014 vintage – quality was generally high after excellent conditions<br />
for ripening over the summer months and into early autumn.<br />
When it comes to red wines, Spain can offer both the long-established<br />
favourites and exciting new grapes and styles. Rioja is represented today<br />
with over 300 wines ranging from young, fruity Tempranillo wines to fine<br />
oak-aged styles. There are also the classy and highly distinctive wines of<br />
Priorat and Ribera del Duero to consider and wines offering both character<br />
and great value for money from the Garnacha heartland comprising Campo<br />
de Borja, Calatayud and Cariñena.<br />
Looking for something different Why not check out the red wines of DO<br />
Granada in Spain’s deep and scenic south. Meanwhile the new DO of Sierra<br />
de Salamanca, to the west, is represented for the first time championing the<br />
Rufete grape.<br />
The white wine regions – DO Rías Baixas and DO Rueda – are here in force<br />
with a wide selection of Albariño and Verdejo wines respectively. But there is<br />
far more. The Chacolí wines of the Basque Country are ideal for consumers<br />
seeking a particularly light, fresh wine style while DO Valdeorras has entered<br />
the premier league of Spanish whites thanks to the Godello grape.<br />
Spain’s very own sparkling wine, Cava, is a popular choice for the UK<br />
consumer and is well represented today. Exhibitors will pop open over 50<br />
different wines, many of them at a higher quality level compared to previous<br />
years.<br />
So there is plenty to discover today. We hope that you enjoy the tasting and<br />
