The Museum opened its doors on the15th November 1972 by Her MajestyQueen Elisabeth II on grounds formerlyused as an RAF base, and has since welcomedthousands of aircraft enthusiastsand their families from all over the world.The RAF Hendon Museum London islocated at Grahame Park Way, Colindale,London. It can be reached from Junction4 of the M1 in 10 minutes or around 30minutes by tube from Central London toColindale Underground station which is inZone 4. Take the train travelling to EDG-WARE (known as the Edgware Branch).From there you can either take a 7-minutebus ride (Bus 303) or a 15-minutewalk from the Underground station. TheMill Hill Broadway is the nearest railwaystation and is a 20-minute walk awaywhilst the nearest airports are Heathrowand London City. The Museum caters forpeople with Special Needs and the staffmembers are happy to assist. GroupVisits, Tours and Educational Visits are acceptedvia Booking in advance.The Museum is open daily from 10.00amto 5.00pm between November andFebruary and from 10.00am to 6.00pmbetween March and October and admissionis free. Car Park fees are: 0 to 3Hours - £3.00 per vehicle and for 3 to 6Hours - £4.00 per vehicle. For those arrivingwith electric cars, the Museum CarPark offers 6 top-up charging points forelectric vehicles at a cost of £1 per halfan hour charge. These fees are chargedto set off part of the costs in maintainingthe Museum’s national collection and tooperate its sites. CCTV is operational inall areas in line with Data Protection laws.All areas are accessible for persons withspecial needs and seating is available forbreaks in between the walkabouts. FreeWi-Fi is also available. The ExhibitionHalls include large print guides in H1 &H6 whilst the video footage has subtitles.The Museum is very large and impossibleto visit in just one day unless youwant to just skim through it. I went morethan once and still have to see someareas in more detail! During my last visit,H6 was still undergoing refurbishmentand thus another reason to go back nexttime. There are 6 hangars, namely theH1 at the Main Entrance housing the RAFStories, the First 100 Years 1918-2018and the RAF First to the Future; the H2housing The First World War in the Air1914–1918 in scheduled buildings datingback to the Hendon Aerodrome; H3, H4& H5 housing the War in the Air 1918-68 Spotters e-Magazine
and a repeat visit is recommended so asto have ample time to appreciate all thatis on display.Spotters e-Magazine 69
