In 1922 the first purpose-built air passenger terminal was opened, in Königsberg-Devau. On October 26 th 1925 Jimmy Doolittle won the Schneider Trophy, setting a world speed record of 245 miles per hour. In May 1927 Charles Lindbergh made the first solo crossing of the Atlantic in his Spirit of St Louis. In May 1930 Amy Johnson became the first woman to fly solo from Britain to Australia. Amelia Earhart made only the second solo flight across the Atlantic, and the first by a female pilot, in May 1932. On February 3 rd 1934 the first transatlantic airmail service was established, from Stuttgart to Buenos Aires. In August 1938 a Lufthansa Focke Wulf Fw 200 made the first non-stop passenger flight from Berlin to New York.
