William Walton - The Bear (Chamber Version)

The Bear (1967), by William Walton, is a dramatic 'extravaganza in one act' based on a short story of Chekhov, with a libretto by Paul Dehn. This new chamber version, by Jonathan Lyness, is scored for three singers and five players (pf, vln/vla, bsn, hp, perc), and is sensitively adapted from the original score as found in the William Walton Edition. The arrangement skilfully preserves the essence of Walton's orchestration while being practical and portable. The full score and parts available on hire are compatible with the OUP vocal score.
