BLACKBOOK SMART GUIDE I n the 100 years since it was officially incorporated, the whitesand shorelines of Miami Beach have beckoned visitors with their postcard perfection. While South Beach has long held court as Miami’s must-see destination, the city around it has grown up, too. Take Brickell, where one only need to look up at the construction crane-filled sky to witness the transformation that is happening in Miami’s financial district. Long dubbed the “Manhattan of the South” because of its young professionals and sky-high designer apartment blocks MIAMI RISING South Beach may still get top billing, but the rest of Florida’s biggest city boasts neighbourhoods full of character and charm that are worth a closer look. The first phase of Swire Properties’ Brickell City Centre – a much anticipated billion development featuring flats, office space, shopping and the 263- key EAST, Miami Hotel (swirehotels.com) – opens at the end of the year.
