A more sybaritic experience can be had at Malaysia’s 119-room The Ritz-Carlton, Langkawi (ritzcarlton.com), a tropical retreat on a private cove with a locally informed, ocean-view spa and four restaurants. Accommodating just 70 guests, the previously untouched Bawah Island (bawahisland.com) in the Indonesian Anambas tempts with a holistic wellness centre, Asian-fusion fare and a trio of themed bars. The latest from feted architect Bill Bensley are the ten villas that comprise Shinta Mani Angkor – Bensley Collection (shintamani.com), set near the Unesco site in Siem Reap; opening in November, it will be joined by another luxe outpost by Bensley in the Cambodian wilds in 2018. For the marque’s second foray into mainland China, Rosewood Sanya (rosewoodhotels.com) in Haitang Bay features plungepool balconies in 45 of its 246 rooms, a spa and a 13th-floor infinity pool. To the northeast, on the southern tip of Taiwan, Chiang Kai-shek’s modernist former guesthouse has been transformed into a 60-key hideaway known as Gloria Manor (gloriamanor.com) amid the splendour of Kenting National Park. Meanwhile, in the Indian Ocean, Mauritius’s beloved One&Only Le Saint Géran (oneandonlyresorts.com) reemerges from renovations more stunning than ever, boasting refreshed rooms, a library and a new pan-Asian eatery. The first upscale lodgings arrive in Sugar City this season with Park Hyatt St Kitts (park.hyatt. com), a 126-room stunner on blissfully secluded Banana Bay; highlights encompass an ocean-to-table dinner spot, as well as premium suites that come with their own rooftop pool and sun deck. On the Yucatán Peninsula, the Tulum Treehouse (tulumtreehouse. com) is a five-bed standalone villa bringing a new lofty perspective to this white-hot destination, highlighted by the gargantuan rooftop dining table that looks out into the jungle canopy. Across the continent, the San Francisco Proper (properhotel. com) on Market Street ticks all the right boxes with 131 sunlit suites by design phenomenon Kelly Wearstler and three restaurants by Eleven Madison Park alum James Franey. Just in time for a wintry city break, 1898 The Post (1898thepost.com) makes a striking first impression with 37 antique-filled rooms, a cocktail bar and fire-lit lounge, all set in a restored Neo-Gothic edifice in the historic heart of Ghent. The City of Light, too, welcomes a charming new pied-à-terre with the 172-key The Hoxton, Paris (thehoxton. com) in a protected 18thcentury structure that also houses a French brasserie and an idyllic courtyard.
