From the Editor CHRISTIAN SCHWALBACH T here is nothing more important than health, both our own and that of our loved ones. It’s a truth that’s easy to take for granted, especially because there’s almost always something that seems more appealing – or at least more urgent – than giving over time to care for ourselves. And yet health is not a project we can reserve for a later date, like that vintage car we’ve been meaning to fix up or that dining room we’d like to redecorate. Health is a different kind of entity: it is a lifelong endeavour, constantly in flux and requiring consistent attention over the years. With this in mind, we have devoted much of this edition of the magazine to the latest innovations in personal wellness. We travel to the Swiss bastion of wellbeing, Clinique La Prairie, to see how it is accommodating the digital age (very well, as you’ll discover on page 22), as well as to the world’s first medically integrated gym in London (page 30), which emphasises prehab, the quite sensible cousin of rehab, based on the method developed by Austrian pioneer Lanserhof. Elsewhere, we cast a wide net over the expanding world of wellbeing, including everything from the latest in-home fitness gadgets and new detox destinations to in-depth looks at body-sculpting techniques, anxiety-reducing technologies and the growing attention given to the bacteria in our digestive system.
