Dancing and jumping with these heavy winter coats and jackets on felt almost as hard as one of my workouts – but once I started I couldn’t stop. I loved seeing how light and airy these garments looked in the pictures.” GISELA WILLIAMS The Berlin-based writer wasn’t sure what to expect when she arrived in Chiang Mai, Thailand’s burgeoning artistic hub, for Picturing Thailand (p57). What she discovered was that the country’s leading conceptual artists may enjoy international success, but they “don’t create for the sake of showing at a gallery.
