Dance: ALVIN AILEY It’s estimated the Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater has performed for over 25 million people across six continents since its founding father, Alvin Ailey, first performed with a group of Black modern dancers in 1958. More than just a dance troupe, Ailey is a cultural institution, and its repertoire, including the signature piece Revelations, is gospel.
