Upon her recent trip to Madagascar for Wild Wild Country (p72), she remembered two things from her childhood: “Land that hasn’t been sprayed with pesticides and herbicides is bursting with insects and birds. Also, I’d forgotten the consolation of a night sky completely devoid of light. I soaked that up.” ROBERT SAGERMAN The American artist who created the painting for this issue’s cover has exhibited his work in both solo and group shows across the globe. He shows regularly at Galerie Renate Bender in Munich, Philip Slein Gallery, St Louis, and Brian Gross Gallery, San Francisco. But his interests extend beyond the visual, and he has a PhD in religious studies from New York University. ANTHONY GRANT “Few of her mythic landscapes fail to intrigue,” says the Athens-based journalist who penned Grecian Splendour (p25), about the many delights of Greece. “And no less beguiling is the process by which the contemporary Greek spirit jostles with the ancient one,” he says. Grant has written for a range of publications that includes The New York Times and the Los Angeles Times. HEIKO DREHER For the German photographer, fashion is a mirror to the times, a constant dialogue that is always in flux – a perspective that can be seen in his menswear shoot, Casual Couture (p58), which combines a rich array of contemporary styles. Learning his craft after moving to New York at the age of 19, Dreher now works in Munich for publications such as Vogue Germany and Magazin Z.
