Though it’s known as the home of the walking safari with wildlife-packed parks that have always lured intrepid travellers and avid walkers, the accommodation has always been more modest than the swank camps in countries like Botswana and Kenya. Now, though, thanks to a clutch of slick eco-minded lodges, Zambia has become the safari destination du jour, luring visitors who want a slice of luxury in what’s often considered one of the wildest parts of southern Africa.
