cpp EDITORIAL First time in Shanghai Achemasia 2019 is setting new standards. Long before the event opens on 21 May 2019 for three days in Shanghai, the booked exhibition space already exceeds the final count for the 2016 event. With about 400 exhibitors from some 20 countries, it will focus on an exchange of experience between scientists and engineers as well as between equipment suppliers and users. Achemasia is a prime opportunity to discover more about current trends in the Chinese market and see what the Chinese industry has to offer. Especially in the area of digitalization, China is seen as a global leader and that will soon show in the process industry as well. Apart from the move to Shanghai, where Achemasia will take place at the NECC for the first time, participants can look forward to a couple more novelties: the International Expo and Innovation Forum for Sustainable Chemical Production will cast a spotlight on the latest technologies in this field. Making the process industry more sustainable means using less resources and less energy; efficiency in production processes is increased by implementing energy recovery measures and by using better catalysts and optimized equipment. It means designing processes from a holistic perspective while making use of new digitalization and modelling approaches. Our preview of Achemasia starts on page 30 with a very interesting article from Andritz dealing with the so-called Metris technology, an IIoT solution for solid / liquid separation equipment and systems featuring advanced digital control. Thanks to this technology, proactive measures to prevent shutdowns and improve monitoring can become reality by applying smart sensors, big data analytics and visualisation using both virtual and augmented reality.
