EVENTS TOP EU HOTEL MANAGERS GATHER IN PARIS “Mr Change” one of the top keynotes at EHMA 46 th AGM - back in French capital One of the top keynote speakers of this year’s European Hotel Managers’ Association meeting will be Ilja Grzeskowitz, nicknamed “Mr. Change” by clients and media: an expert in the culture of change. It is set to be a weekend rich in top-level speakers, including names like Serge Trigano, Claus Meyer, Märtha Rehnberg and Hans Steenbergen, just to mention a few. After 19 years, the 46 th EHMA Annual General Assembly, themed “Welcome to the Future” will be back in Paris, at the Westin Paris – Vendôme, from February 15 th to 17 th . an “Open Forum”. The day will end with the Welcome Cocktail at The Westin Paris – Vendôme. a keynote by Ilja Grzeskowitz. Thereafter, the speakers will be: Somer Gundogdu, President - Professional, Europe Middle East and Africa at Diversey; Yves Givel, Vice Presidente HR Hyatt International; Serge Trigano, founder of the chain Mama Shelter; Hans Steenbergen at EHMA was founded in Rome in 1974 by a small group of top quality hotel properties general managers. The European Hotel Managers Association aims to improve qualification of professionals through training in view of increasing the standards of services to be provided to guests. At present the Association gathers more than 400 members, many of whom are general managers of the most prestigious hotels in 29 countries that make a total of 300 represented hotels, 80,000 rooms, and 62,000 employees. The opening day of Friday 15 February will start with the General Assembly, dedicated to the institutional moments of EHMA. The working sessions will be officially opened by President Hans E. Koch and by Organising Committee Chairman Manuel de Vasconcelos. At the same time of the General Assembly, the Young EHMA Group will join a working session organized by EHL (École Hôtelière de Lausanne) led by Ian Millar, Manager of Inst. of Business Creativity & Senior Lecturer EHL. Working sessions will be concluded by the “Members’ Hour” and The Westin Paris Vendôme A Gala Dinner will be held in the spectacular ballroom of InterContinental Paris Le Grand: 2-star-Michelin chef Alain Dutournier and Laurent André Executive Chef of the Grand Hotel are joining forces to prepare a special menu featuring the best of French cuisine. Saturday 16 February is “Educational Day” focusing on the theme “Welcome to the Future!”, featuring, among others, Food Inspiration Magazine; Claus Meyer, founder of Noma Restaurant; Märtha Rehnberg at Dare Disrupt; the interior architects Tristan Auer & Monica Moser at Wilson & Associate. A group of MBA students at INSEAD will then give a presentation at the meeting on “What ticks for Millennials”

This year, ITB Berlin, the World’s Leading Travel Trade Show, will be taking place from Wednesday, 6 to Sunday, 10 March, and from Wednesday to Friday will be open to trade visitors only. ITB Berlin is. In 2018 a total of 10,000 companies and organisations from 186 countries exhibited their products and services to around 170,000 visitors, including 110.000 trade visitors. Parallel with the show the ITB Berlin Convention, the largest event of its kind, will be held from Wednesday, 6 to Saturday, 9 March 2019. Malaysia’s destination marketing organisation – Tourism Malaysia – is organising what is set to be a highly spectacular opening ceremony, and all the nation’s states will be represented at the show – demonstrating the extraordinary diversity of internal destinations. Impressive tourist attractions currently under development include the Desaru Coast resort featuring a water park, golf courses and a conference centre in Johor, an ultramodern complex in the coastal city of Melaka, and the 20 th Century Fox World theme park in Genting Highlands. Malaysia is renowned for its pristine National Parks and wildlife, and will be highlighting ecotourism products Technology, Tours & Activities (TTA) is one of the tourism industry’s fastestgrowing segments. According to Phocuswright, the international travel research institute, tours and activities make up around 10% of the global travel market – more than rail travel, car hire and cruises combined. The brand-new Technology, Tours & Activities segment at ITB Berlin is the first of its kind in Europe and gathers the tourism industry’s most important groups who all share the same goal: promoting and selling in-destination services. Both major players and small start-ups will be showcasing their innovative products in this new exhibition and meeting area in the Adventure Travel Hall (4.1). Commenting, David Ruetz, head of ITB Berlin, said: “We look forward to being the first to provide the TTA segment with a new international forum at ITB Berlin 2019 and to helping to shape the tourism industry’s third-largest market. Nowadays, simply offering customers bus and city tours is no longer enough. Being able to book tours, attractions and local activities online has become more important than ever.
