I NEWS I "Sustainability

I NEWS I "Sustainability in design is here to stay" Speaking at IFA EXPERT TALKS, Colour-Material-Finish (CMF) design expert Anouk Groen reviewed the latest trends that focus on sustainability. For Ms Groen, incorporating sustainability into product design is no longer a fad, and as she underlined in her conference, "sustainability in design is here to stay." After 20 years in the field of CMF design, Groen is adept at detecting and forecasting design tendencies that not only influence consumer electronics, but that extend across multiple industries. At IFA 2023, she shared cross-industry sustainable design trends that will continue to advance into the future. For manufacturers who want to take planet friendly design into account, this does not necessarily mean exorbitant production costs in Groen's view. "Sometimes it’s a question of finding the right materials, simplifying the design or focusing on the longevity of the product," she claimed. To illustrate this, she outlined four product design solutions that keep sustainability in mind: products made with recycled materials and bio-sourced materials, designed with 3D light, and built to last. Incorporating recycled materials has already become a sustainability solution for many products, Groen affirmed, including BMW's iVision Circular and Nike's Space Hippie sneaker while natural bio-based materials being used by the mobility, sports, and marine sectors are providing viable alternatives to wood, carbon and plastic. 3D printing, Groen noted, allows for design complexity while reducing costs, waste, and time. As an example, she cited the EDAG Genesis concept car, which was produced in a single production process. Making longer lasting products is a trend that embraces limited editions, aged materials and refillable products, including Dove’s refillable deodorant container made of stainless steal, designed as a one-time purchase Anouk Groen CMF design expert In 2023, technological advancements are reshaping the way we experience sound. IFA this year was a testament to this evolution, spotlighting products that promise to redefine auditory experiences. Tradition meets audio innovation with the Yamaha R-N600A at IFA 2023 A standout at the IFA this year is Yamaha's R-N600A Network Receiver. This product is a culmination of Yamaha's extensive history and expertise in Hi- Fi technologies. Designed meticulously, it promises users an audio journey that captures the essence of every note, whether they're streaming contemporary tracks or diving into the rich world of vinyl records. At the heart of the R-N600A is Yamaha's audio design concept ToP-ART (Total Purity Audio Reproduction Technology), which delivers a powerful amplifier performance. With a legacy spanning over six decades in the audio domain, Yamaha has refined this design concept to guarantee unmatched sonic purity and dynamic expression. Yamaha's higher-end models employ DACs from ESS Technology for ultra-high resolution, ensuring even the subtlest nuances in sound are faithfully reproduced. The R-N600A Network Receiver incorporates True Sound, rooted in a rich history of musical instruments and sound technologies, aiming to transport listeners into a live concert setting and create an immersive experience. Connectivity is another forte of the R-N600A. Beyond its compatibility with Yamaha's proprietary MusicCast network, it supports a range of streaming platforms, including Amazon Music HD, Spotify, and Apple Music through Airplay 2. Yamaha's R-N600A Network Receiver, unveiled at IFA 2023, attempts to blend traditional audio values with cutting-edge technology, and set a new standard for the industry Hall 1.2 / Stand 116 IFA INTERNATIONAL • TUESDAY 5 TH SEPTEMBER 2023 7
