on the pulse girl

on the pulse girl didn’t know who had donated the aircraft, but I can tell you they indirectly touched the life of a girl who thought at one time she had no hope. We carry these plastic wine glasses and that was the only request she had: one of those glasses with ice and a Coca-Cola. After she got off that airplane, I couldn’t bear it anymore. I cried tears of joy for her … I cried like a baby. CREWMEMBERS IN PROFILE BRUCE RAY Cessna Citation Latitude Captain MY FIRST EXPOSURE TO FLYING WAS … when I was at a fair in Ripley, West Virginia. There was a helicopter giving rides. I begged and begged my mom to let me take a ride, but she just didn’t feel like it was a good idea. Almost ten years later, I took my first flying lesson, which was the first time my feet left the ground—and I was hooked. THE BEST PART OF FLYING IS … when you get up in the air you don’t see anything except beauty. From frozen tundras to a tropical paradise to the fall colors over the mountains, we truly have the best views. BEFORE JOINING THE NETJETS TEAM, I WAS … flying in the U.S. Army as a Black Hawk instructor. I spent time in Egypt, Korea, Bosnia, Croatia, and the Caribbean. My last duty was teaching new Army students in Ft. Rucker, Alabama. THE ONE DAY AT NETJETS I WON’T FORGET WAS … the day that I got to fly a young girl to her oncologist. We took her to the checkup and flew her home with the good news that she was cured. The family and the ONE THING OWNERS PROBABLY WOULDN’T GUESS ABOUT ME IS … that my first few months of life were spent in a foster home. I was born in Gallipolis, Ohio, and my mother gave me up for adoption. Five to six months later I was adopted into a family in West Virginia. I’m sure that I was around several other children in that foster home. I sure hope that they have been as blessed as I have. ON MY DAYS OFF … I spend my [time] with my wife and family. We have purchased a farmhouse on 15 acres. We have two boys, Bryce, 12, and Jaycob, 11. Between remodeling the farmhouse and raising two boys, I also have a small excavator that I use to do small jobs for people in the area. Needless to say, my wife and I are very, very busy. WITHIN THE NEXT TEN YEARS, I WOULD LIKE TO … [be giving] check rides to all of the first officers who, after working hard and being patient, get their turn as Captain because they deserve it. MY BEST ADVICE FOR STAYING SANE ACROSS TIME ZONES IS … [to not] spend all your time in your room. For the first 13 years at NetJets I flew the Gulfstream. During that time, we went to England as often as British Airways. Usually we were landing as the sun was coming up. As soon as we got to the hotel, we would have a light breakfast and then go up and try to catch only a couple of hours [of sleep]. Then we’d go do some sightseeing. It’s truly amazing the amount of work required to send one airplane around the world, and it’s amazing what the team in the NetJets HQ does to make it easy for the crews, for the vendors, customs officers, maintenance personnel, but mainly for our Owners. Thank you to all of you. JULIAN RENTZSCH 26 NetJets
