To become lovers, they must overcome their differences and find the things that unite them. The ballet opens with Pomona, the goddess of fruits, and her nymphs being approached by the god Vertumnus and his train of immortals in hunting attire. This startles Pomona, she departs and Vertumnus decides to return in disguise. As the principals and corps de ballet prepare for the performance, a parallel romance unfolds among the cast. Even at this early stage in his career, Lambert’s technical brilliance and effortless, characterful style are strongly on display throughout. 30 minutes Herman Severin Lövenskjöld ed. In this tragic fairy tale, a sylph falls in love with a young farmer and succeeds in drawing him away from his betrothed, but both are ultimately betrayed by the village sorceress. 60 minutes

As the night progresses, the temperature rises, partners change and change again – looking for satisfaction and an escape from themselves. The premiere was given by Motionhouse Dance Theatre company in 1996, with this performance additionally incorporating poetry by Scottish writer A. L. Kennedy to accompany the choreography by Kevin Finnan and Louise Richards. Skempton’s score is transcendent yet barbed with rhythmically angular moments, highlighting the twisted narrative of the characters’ journeys. 40 minutes Ballet Rawsthorne – Skempton 7
